Reed (Arcane Defense Teacher)

Reed turned to look at all of the new students who had approached him.  "Well yes, I'm Reed, the new Arcane Defense teacher." he said with a smile on his face.  All of them seemed to be quite powerful in their own ways, and each surely held a massive amount of potential.  His keen ears, however, picked up on the two Paragon's conversation about testing.  Apparently someone had been doing some investigating.

"Well young sir, you heard correctly.  Although it isn't quite like that.  I hope to have all of you at one point or another on, or at least around, the same level, and a high one a that.  However, I need to first know where you stand in order to pair you up with the correct sparing partners." he explained kindly.  "So, as I told this young man before," he said, referring to Silas, "I'm heading toward the courtyard where we will be holding my classes, and would be happy to have you along.  It seems that no one got the maps of the campus, so without a teacher or returning student, it might be hard to find your way around."

Arya (Student)

The young elf princess followed them down the hall, frowning slightly.  She could have sworn that she felt a familar presence as they left the hall, but shook it off.  They continued down the hall, and entered a new classroom.  Arya had to admit that the decor had surprised her slightly, with the combination of modern and older appliances and furniture.  She watched with curiosity as the Headmaster pulled out various relics, an eyebrow raised in suspicion as he pulled out an apple lastly.  When he seemed finished, she turned away and took a seat.  She slowly traced her tattoos all over her arm, stopping and repeatedly going over the ancient relic that was embedded into her skin.  She mumbled a couple of ancient words, and the marking glowed slightly.  A small smile came to her face as she felt a slight surge of power, and waited for the class to begin.

So dont stop, dont stop until your heart goes numb

With a wince, Fenrick leaned over to Arya and began whispering to her. "Psst. I wouldn't be fooling around with those, if I were you. If Master Rook catches you, you're gonna get the boot so fast. In class, you cast your assigned magic, and nothing else. And I think you're already on his Naughty List, if you know what I mean. You should probably toe the line."

So as not to get caught in more chit-chat, Fenrick leaned back into his desk and focused on Rook. Rook was eyeing his class, watching as students poured in. He waited for them to seat themselves before swinging his arms out in a wide arc.

"Welcome, class!" His eyes lit up with passion. "Welcome to Advanced Enchantments! You are all very lucky to be with me here today. Being here means you are talented. But beyond that! Being here means that you have worked hard to be here. You have studied. You have learned. You have applied your knowledge wisely. You know more of magic than a great deal of the common populace" His lips tightened. "But by no means does this mean you are experts. Although you are more knowledgeable than some, there are still great gaps in your knowledge. I am here to fill in those gaps. I am here to teach you to be more effective users of magic. Are you following so far, class?"

Mytsica tried to catch up to the students, but it was too late. They had already vanished down another corridor and didn't notice her cries. She was much too tired to chase after them some more, so she simply dropped to the floor on her knees.

Much to her embarrassment, she began sniffling, and her eyes grew watery. "Oh no," she whimpered to herself. "C-come on Mystica...you're too old for this..." But she couldn't comfort herself enough. Her first day at school, and she was tardy. What would the teachers think of her? She knew this school was highly selective. Oh, what if they tossed her out for being so late?

Not knowing what else to do, the young witch buried her face into her cloak and began sobbing quietly.

((OOC: I'm waiting for Moofie's Basic Charms teacher to show up, but someone can interact with Mystica in the meantime o^o))

Wait, placement test? That wasn't what he was hoping for in such a class. He had been expecting just some basic lessons and perhaps some practice. The idea of a placement test bothered him, though it didn't seem like to would really be affecting how he did in the class, just who he was put with. Sparring, though, was no one of his strong points. He scratched at Epsilon's ears for a sign of comfort, but the rabbit ignored him.

The others didn't seem too bothered about it, though, so he supposed it would be alright. And since the teacher was headed to the courtyard, he might was well follow. At least there was finally someone who knew where they were going.

Hallway

Large, lumbering footsteps rattled the hallways behind Mystica. The air crackled with electricity. The smell of ozone trickled through the hallway, and a large shadow fell over the area where the young witch sat sobbing.

"Hey, are you OK?"

Image

The Voltage Staigovold filled up much of the hallway. Some might wonder how such a large, lumbering creature even made it through the doorways! But that was one of the advantages of magic: Special doorways that seemed to change in size, just to make sure everyone got through. And though the Staigovold's face was armored and unmoving, his eyes gave off the impression of a smile.

"Are you lost, sweetie?" he asked. His voice was friendly, and unusually high-pitched, as if it belonged to someone much smaller and younger. "Don't worry. Everyone gets lost a little on the first day... no matter what Emiliano believes." He chuckled. "I won't tell if you won't tell. Which class you going to? I'm Maru Blue, the Basic Charms teacher, by the way. ...And I hope my class hasn't revolted, seeing as I haven't shown up yet. Sorry! Minor scheduling issue. You know how it is."

((Charms classroom))
Zexi by now seemed to realize that no one was coming despite being directed here. He sighed in irritation and got up dropping his illusion to be human again. He walked out of the classroom just in time to see a staigovold walk into another. Figuring he would take his chances he followed after the rather large creature into the classroom.

"Hello. My name is Zexi sir. What class would this be?" His voice was a bit timid as he was unused to such a large beast being sentient still. He wasn't from this world afterall.

((Hallway))

Mystica had been too busy crying to herself to hear the Staigovald's footsteps, and since her face was in her sleeve, she couldn't see the large shadow the reptile cast. She only noticed when the Staigovald began speaking. Her sniffling suddenly stopped, and she slowly lifted her head to look at him. There was a bunch of electricity coming off of him, and he was very big and tough looking, but something about the Staigovald seemed very gentle.

For a moment, Mystica was comforted by his assurance that everyone got lost, but when he said he was the Basic Charms teacher, she became slightly panicked. "O-oh!" she cried, feeling embarrassed. "I-I'm so sorry, erm, M-mister Maru Blue sir... I was actually looking for your class..." She was worried about being punished, but at the same time, Mr. Maru Blue didn't look like a very stern man...

Reed

"Ahaha, don't look so worried." Reed said in his usual lazy way.  To be honest, he hadn't expected to have such a small class, but whether it was large or small, he could make that work to his advantage.  After all, he had to do such things all the time when in training under his father, the king.  Flexibility, both in battle, or in a royal court, was something he had learned to value.  "So, are you all coming?" he said to the Paragon siblings before heading down the hall.

Arya

"Oh, fine..." Arya said, rolling her eyes before smiling slightly.  The poor guy was simply hung up on Headmaster Rook.  What a dedicated student...  She listened as Headmaster Rook explained everything, and barely stifled a laugh.  She hadn't done anything of the such.  Studying?  Way to much work for her.  Practice?  Unless he considered the occasional accident where she slammed someone through a couple of walls, or froze them solid, she had done nothing of the such.  Regardless, she took what Fenrick said to heart, and decided that she would, for the day, try not to stir up to much trouble.

Basic Charms

"This would be Basic Charms, my good student!" Professor Blue said. "If you'll excuse me." Trying not to swing his slicing, electrified tail, the Charms teacher lumbered to the area behind his desk. There was some kind of jewel, suspended on a harness, sitting on the desk. It hung on a cord between two loops of leather. Professor Blue bent his head low, and two of his horns went through the loops. He pulled his head back, and the jewel now sat nicely in the middle of his forehead, held in place on his forehead by the straps.

"Hello, everyone!" His voice boomed from deep in his belly. "I'm Professor Maru Blue! Just Professor Blue, professionally. Heh heh." He chuckled. "This is Basic Charms, so, if you're lost... I'm afraid you'll have to go be lost somewhere else. ...Naaah, just kiddin'. I can probably tell you where you need to be if you are lost." He paused, and waited to see if any students would come up to ask him where to go. None did, so he proceeded.

"Now, as you may or may not know, magic is divided up into a number of different disciplines. Spellcasting, spell-making, potions, enchantments... All kinds of good stuff. Charms, however, is what we're studying here. Does anyone know what a charm is? Anyone?" He scanned the class. A Bruma in the back had his hand raised, so Prof. Blue indicated him.

The Bruma stood up to give his answer. "A charm is a spell that you put inside something else. Like, a good luck charm that you carry around with you. Or a charm to make sure the winds favor your boat. That kind of thing," he said.

"Very good!" Professor Blue nodded at him. "Class, if you're not taking notes, now is a good time to start. 'A charm is a passive spell that is contained inside an object.' Did you all get that?"

Advanced Enchantments

Fenrick smiled. At least it looked like this girl was listening.

Up at the front of the room, Master Rook's nose twitched as if he'd smelled the magic, but he said nothing. He was talking about Enchantment Theory--That was, the different ways magicians chose to represent magic as an entity. Some pictured magic as a fluid, flowing from place to place. Others pictured it as a chaotic, moving cloud, expanding to fill the area it was in. Others pictured it as more of a filmy web. Still others had other ideas.

"...Of course, the form of magic is largely dependent on the will of the sorcerer, and however you picture it affects how it will behave for you. Because the essence of enchantment lies in containing magic, you will need to build a container in your mind capable of holding what you imagine. I myself use the 'web' model, and see myself sticking the corners of a fine web up, and holding them down with tacks."

He jabbed across the classroom, and pointed out Arya. "Young Arya," he said. "What do you picture magic as? The substance itself, not in any sort of abstract capacity concerning its purpose."

Arya

A container?  Despite having vowed that she wasn't going to pay to much actual attention to Rook's lessons, she was intriqued by his view on what magic was.  She rested her chin on her hands, and thought about it.  For once, she was actually calm, both inwardly, and outwardly.  She'd been trained in perfect meditation habits before, when she was first training in the magic arts, and it seemed that she hadn't quite forgotten it all.

She sat up when she heard the Headmaster call on her.  What she imagined it as?  That was quite the question.  But Rook had asked for her answer, so he would get it, despite how odd and lengthy it might.  "Well, Headmaster, I suppose I saw it originally as a tightly sealed box, one that stung me each time a reached out for it at first.  And no matter how hard I tried, I could not break the seal and see the secrets that it held inside.  Later on, I finally broke that seal through long hours of training and meditation, and the box transformed into something more.  It shrank, and turned into a small pendant, one radiating a great amount of ominous, confusing power that I then learned to channel through me.  When I finally advanced enough, I no longer had to think about it, or picture it.  That pendant, that ruin was no longer just a figment of my mind, rather, it manifested itself, as it had with the others in my family, in the form of an inked ruin here.  Due to my elfin blood, we typically have different ways of using and learning our magic, so I'm not sure if this is the answer you might've been hoping for." she said, showing her arm with the various tattoos, and the ruin she spoke of in the center of all the inked markings.  She'd never really bothered to explain to anyone before how this came to be, for it was an understood point in her family that each would eventually find their source of magic, and she was kept within her family for the most part anyway, so the question never came up.

(OOC: I'll go ahead and post for Reed again after Fire posts for her three, since I don't wanna leave them behind.  And sorry about Arya's long explaination.  She'd passionate about her magic, just not about someone controlling/limiting it. And she's kinda flirty with other guys, and can do it in a slightly rude way, thinking she's entitled to do so being royalty and all.  xDDD)

((Basic Charms Class))
Upon hearing that the class was a charms class Zexi decided he would stay. He had used charms before though he doubted in the way that the creatures here did. He quickly took a seat at the front of the class and dug out a notebook to take notes with. Once settled he stared intently up at the teacher and the blackboard. Hopefully the class would not be too hard or too easy. He still hated that everyone used the word magic here instead of illusion. As a scientist he did not like the term magic and perfered not to use it, but if everyone here called it magic...well then it seemed Zexi would have to adapt to this environment.

Advanced Enchantments

"I think you misunderstood me, Misstress Arya." Master Rook stroked the furry goatee dangling from his yellow jaw. "I asked what form you imagine magic itself taking, not the means you use to control it. And while it is very good to have a means of that control established in your mind, I am looking for your ideas on magic itself. Try to think of magic without a vessel. Distance yourself from your runes and your pendants and your wands. Think of the magic traveling inside them. What do you see there? You mentioned a cloud within that pendant; is that how you think of magic?"

Fenrick was watching the Master intently. Although he had rejected Arya's explanation, his face was as even as his voice. A spark of intrigue danced in the Master's eyes. Now he was trying to get Arya to think about her methods, and explain herself more. He seemed to be really trying to teach her, now, which suggested to him that the Master might have been warming up to her.

Basic Charms

The gem on Professor Blue's horns began to glow, and something levitated up from behind his desk. Objects descended from the sky, to land not-quite gently on the student's desks. Some of the objects bustled into place, and a few of them flew too low and smacked students on the forehead. Luckily, the objects were quite yielding, and the Professor winced apologies.

Soon, every student had a small plastic bag sitting on his or her desk. They were filled up with white granules.

"Salt!" Professor Blue said. "Same old stuff you find in a round container at the supermarket. Taste it if you don't believe me. Luckily it's cheap, because it's an important component in many spells. People in the olden days used to believe it could ward off evil! And they were right, of course. It just needs a little... help! So! Here's a question for you: Does anyone here know about circles of protection?"

Arya couldn't help it, she was hooked.  She'd never really cared about what she was using in terms of magic, just that she could cast spells.  It came so naturally that she never really seemed to care about the fundamentals and such.  Her brow furrowed once again, and she thought long and hard.  "Well, I suppose a free-flowing energy of sorts, one that must be learned and trusted in order for the user to draw upon its power.  It most likely has no definite form, but is what you imagine it to be.  So I guess that for me, it was like a mist of sorts that I had to find my way through, and then learn to channel?" she ended, the last part a sort of question.  Her rebelious nature had been shoved in the corner for the time being now that she was actually partly interested, and she seemed to genuinely care about what was to be said next.

Basic Charms

Mystica, still sniffling slightly but glad she wasn't punished, followed Professor Maru Blue to his classroom. When they entered, she took a good look around at the room and at her classmates (and hoped they weren't staring at her red-from-crying eyes). There was a Diosol who looked pretty studious, in particular. After observing her surroundings, Mystica sat down at her designated desk. She grabbed her notebooks and a pencil and listened intently, wanting to make up for her lateness with diligence in class. When the Bruma explained what a Charm was, she quickly jotted it down in her notes. 'A charm is a passive spell that is contained inside an object.'

Looking back up, she watched in amazement as Professor Blue's gem began to glow, levitating a bunch of bags off of his desk. She let out a squeak as her bag almost hit her atop the head, and she grabbed it and set it down on where it belonged. Mystica stared at the bag. It was just regular old table salt!

The young witch had heard of tossing salt over your shoulder for protection. But she wasn't too sure of what a "circle of protection" was. She supposed she should take a guess. She shyly, slowly raised a hand and spoke in a quiet voice. "U-um," she stammered, "is it like...a magic circle? Something you draw on the ground...?"

Advanced Enchantments

"There you go," Rook said, with a wave of his hand towards Arya. "It sounds as if you use something very similar to the 'cloud' model. 'Cloud' modelers generally think of the magic as being contained within things, and for them, learning to channel it is a manner of 'shaping' objects in their mind to capture it. You will need to learn to hold the magic down for this class, and you will need to make your own vessels. Enchantments are not like charms. They have nothing physical to contain them except the restraints put upon them by their wizards."

Rook rustled his robes, and lifted his hand. "Stand up, class," he called. Fenrick was the first up, and he held his arms stiffly at his sides, awaiting a command.

"Class, let us all practice a simple enchantment. You all have some experience, correct? So this should not be a problem for you. I want you to create a small enchantment over your desk--no larger than it--that causes whatever enters it to appear in a rainbow of colors. A bit like those plastic glasses you can buy in toy shops that make the world appear shimmery and rainbow-colored. Does anyone in this class feel they are unable to complete this task?"

"Oh, no sir! I can do it!" Fenrick said abruptly.

Basic Charms

"Very good" Professor Blue said, with a nod at Mystica. "That is quite correct. Circles are rather powerful. They are the simplest form for many things in nature to take--bubbles, planets--and that means they hold magic well. Salts, meanwhile, due to the powerful charges involved in making a salt and the ionization--well, let's say you can use most salts for this, but sodium chloride is the cheapest. You know, me and an old friend used to have a joke about table salt... Err, but that's off-topic."

He levitated his own bag of salt, and began sprinkling it at his feet. "I want you all to make a small circle out of salt on your desks. Don't worry, the janitors don't mind. Make it as neat as you can, but it's OK if it's a little lumpy, too. When you do that, we're going to put a protection spell on it so that you can put your pencils and stuff inside and no one else will be able to touch them. Raise your hand when you're done! Then we'll go on and stuff."

I'm so cool (too bad I'm a loser).
I'm so smart (too bad I can't get anything figured out)!
I'm so brave (too bad I'm a baby).
I'm so fly
That's probably why it feels just like I'm falling for the first time!

I'm so green (it's really amazing).
I'm so clean (too bad I can't get all the dirt off of me)!
I'm so sane (It's driving me crazy)!
It's so strange
I can't believe I'm falling for the first time!
