"Oh, what a lovely accent you've got there. And so polite too, my dear Rachel must be moving up in the world." Lin laughed, such a pretty sound from such a dangerous woman. Turpin could see her now, sat on the antique leather chair in her office, feet up on the desk, twirling her short, dark hair with one finger. You'd be forgiven for thinking that she was in the middle of a social call, but that was Lin all over. She had few things left in the world she enjoyed and business was one of them. "That's fine. Your message will be delivered promptly. Oh," she added, as an afterthought. "And tell Rachel that Hester will be along to collect tomorrow evening, once the sun has set. We'll find her." She wasn't worried about Turpin trying to run, that girl would do anything to avoid leaving her city. Lin hung up.

Turpin shuddered. "No need. I heard. Good god she terrifies me, I really hate vampires." She turned to glare at Evan. "If we survive this, you'd better be so fucking grateful for that phone call, you have no idea. Just think, now I have the nice, cosy thought of a date with a vampire's henchwoman to keep me going. Really give me something to live for."

She looked down at her feet, scuffing the floor with her worn shoes. "Acey, you're the brains of the group, well... apparently. I'm still not entirely convinced, but... What are we going to do now?"

((Sounds good!))

When Lin hung up, he handed Turpin the old phone back, with a very uncomfortable feeling. Even  without the additional information of her being a Vampire, the woman on the other end of the line just seemed predatory. Shaking the unconfortable  feeling off, he turned his attention to Evan, who shrunk even a little more together.

Not looking directly at Turpin, Evan said "believe me, I am…I did not know that…that…you have that kind of connections. I mean…" he straightened himself again a bit. "I will make it up to you…somehow. really."
"Don't make promises you cant keep" Acey said coolly. It was clear that
he did not think very high of Evan, regardless of their situation. But as it was,
they all sat in the same sinking ship, so he did not say anything else on that matter.

"Well…thanks I guess" He said, before clearing his throat.
"all right. I think what we now should do is get to he hideout as fast as possible, locate the safe and crack it for Kavinsky's men. Then we may or may not could wait at a distance until those brutes collect it to make shure they find it,and not someone else. And…thats pretty much it.
We're on our merry ways.carefully." he shrugged, as if the situation was clear enough before "whoah wait, hold on" Evan said. "I really do not want to go there. what if they found out where the hideout is?" "well you said they don't know"
"I said I think they don't know. Besides, who's going to open that safe? you?" he asked, the last question sounding quite sarcastic. Acey smirked grimly
"Never judge a book by its cover,Evan. I can crack safes...But I do have to admit that I am not
an absolute specialist in it. If anyone else feels up to it…" he looked at them both, but stopped  at Turpin. Honestly, he was quite curious what else she was capable  of. So far, she seemed to have some surprises up her sleeves…
Evan crossed his arms in front of his chest. "I don't like it." he simply stated,
his gaze flickering nervously through the hallway. "do you have a better idea?
I'd love to hear it"  Silence from Evans side followed.

Turpin shrugged, she was with Acey on the matter. Her expectations of Evan were low, but that didn't she was writing him off just yet. People like that sometimes had a capacity for surprising you, even when you were convinced otherwise. More often than not they were entirely useless, but nonetheless, she'd been proved wrong before. Although if he really did want to make it up to her, paying for a decent meal and a haircut would go a long way. (You had to take what you could get, right?)

"Well it's as risky as anything, but it's got to be worth a shot. I don't think there's another way we can go about this, if we don't want to cause a fuss." She wasn't entirely sold on the plan, but there was nothing else for it. Well, if there was, they hadn't come up with it.

"Do you really think for a second I'd still be on the streets if I could crack safes? Sorry mate, you're on your own there. Locks I can manage, but anything else is a bit beyond me." Well... There was picking locks and then there was burning through them, very few people actually picked locks now, except perhaps locksmiths, master assassins and archaic thieves.

There was the sound of footsteps not far off, Turpin stood up and turned to face the others. "Shit. You guys hear that? My idea is that we get going. Now."

(sorry for the very short and uninspired reply.
the last few days, and the next 4 weeks have been and will be absolutely mental.
more because I am the one stressing myself out then anything, but also because of...stuff.

if you want, you could  describe the house the safe is located/ where they arrive, to get the plot a bit further.
I thought about a very old, verry rotten /as in...falling apart rotten/ 2-3 level storage house..

again sorry, I hope the next one will get better...)

Evan looked a bit defeated. it was not like he could really defend himself from the spoken and unspoken accusations, since they quite frankly where right. He never was one to go out of his way to prove other people wrong in how they thought of him. Hell, he did not even know these guys. but that did not mean that it sit well with him...

Acey shrugged, taking an other drag of his cigarette "you've got a point there…"he seemed to think about the situation for a moment, then continued. "well…most likely its a  old and /or cheap safe anyway. So I guess I should not have much trouble getting it open." Since they quite some time before meeting the 'deadline', he was not overly concerned about it. Before he could add anything else tho, his head snapped arround and he looked at the direction the footsteps came from. Nodding his head, he quietly got up, and followed Evan, who hastily took the lead.

They took quite some time to eventually get to their destination. Far longer then one would usually take for that distance wether it was because Evan tried to shake possible pursuers, or simply was pondering if the adress of the hideout he had in his head was correct  was up to interpretation. Anyway, they made it there in one piece, and that was all that counted for now. Acey gave the building they stopped in front of a grimm look. "charming" he mumbled.

They were in one of the more elderly part of the city, in other cities this would give the impression of grandeur, but here it just meant everything was more rotten. In it's history, the house that stood before them had probably played host to all manner of illicit activities and it looked the worse for it. Turpin wondered how long it would be before the entire place fell down. Not long, by the looks of things.

"Boy, you can sure pick 'em. Even I wouldn't touch this place." She put her hands in her pockets and exhaled slowly, the trip through the city had grated on her nerves. Turpin had been expecting to see their pursuers around every corner, and she was sure that it had only gotten colder since the start of her adventure. Turpin made a mental note to try the hostels tomorrow, should she survive. Maybe she could find a place before the weather turned even colder.

She snook around to one side of the house and peered in the broken window. There wasn't much light to see by, and even less in the gloom of the house itself, but it didn't appear as if there was anyone waiting for them inside.

"It's clear. Let's go."

(holy moly...two weeks.
I'm so sorry. I just cant catch a break at the moment it seems :/
maybe when I'm in singapore things will slow down for a bit (before REALLY crashing down on me)
sorry again :()

Evan looked back nervously before walking towards the building with the others. He as well had expected that them to run right in the arms of one of their pursuers. However, things seemed to start going better for them...or at the very least, not absolutely catastrophic. Turning his attention back towards the building, he only shrugged. "well...at least no one would expect a safe here" he muttered.

Acey peered at the window Turpin was currently looking through. Since it was not very high from the ground,
he decidet that they should use the window rather then going all the way to the backdoor and possibly having to pick it open. All tho, he mused, by the state of this place, it would most likely be enough to just lean against it to make it collapse. Though the broken window, he grabbed the handle on the other side and pulled it open. it creaked slightly as if protesting, but at least it was not falling off its hinges. Quickly, Acey slipped through the window and found himself in what appeared to be a small office or overseer room. there even where some old, smashed monitors on the far end of the room, sitting on a half rotten table. Usually, he was
living by the 'ladys first' rule, but in the given circumstances that was hardly apropriate.

When they all where gathered in the room, Evan could almost feel the questioning look of them both. "Before you ask, I again have no idea where that thing could be." he said almost snappy, before remembering that these people where probably saving his (and their) asses. "I...usually would suggest that we should split up.
but given that the place looks like the ceiling might come down when one of us sneezes, it might be a better idea to stay together? or at least close-ish?" The thought of breaking through the floor when no one was close to help was not exactly comforting to evan

Outside, there was a whole other problem waiting. The man was eying the building, and more specifically, an open window very closely. He had been lucky enough to actually spot these little pests after they made their grand escape. He and his buddies split up to catch them, and he actually found them. However, he figured tha alone, he might would have a hard time to catch/kill them all at once. So he decidet to lay low and follow them, in hope for a better opportunity. And for now, he was not entirely sure how to handle the situation.
So he stared at the building a little longer, pondering his options..

Turpin slipped into the room after Acey. It was even darker in here than outside, it took a moment for her eyes to adjust. The entire house was rotted through, severely damaged by both rainwater and time. Evan was right when he said that it could fall down at any moment. "Right, well, if we're not splitting up we should search the ground floor first. I don't fancy my chances with those stairs."

She looked around the rotted shell of the building (former building, in truth, it was barely standing up) and she felt a familiar chill down her spine. Something was wrong, she couldn't place it but something was definitely wrong. In the circles Turpin existed in, you didn't live very long unless you had pretty good instincts. "I don't like it here." Well, that was stating the obvious. "I mean, there's something... Trust me. Let's just try to get outta here as quickly as possible." She drew her over sized coat tighter around herself, wincing slightly as it scraped against the injury she'd sustained earlier in the night.

Evan trailed behind Turpin and Acey, keeping up pace, but still seemed to be happy enough with not walking right beside them. Looking around, he felt his heart sink a little. Not only was the whole place decayed, but there was all sorts of rubbish lying around, making a quite escape, or maybe a dash to the nearest window without tripping, quite impossible. Yes, he actually kind of still thought about ditching the two, as soon as possible...He was not proud of it, but experience told him that taking advantage of people often meant the difference between survival and being shot like a dog. However, he still did not loose all hope that they could find the vault and, maybe possibly get out of this, without him ditching them. or trying to, for that matter.

Acey threw a nervous glance over his shoulder when Turpin spoke up. As far as he was concerned, she was right, all though the whole place made him feel on edge as it was, he was quite willing to trust in her instincts in that matter. She maybe was a bit more...familiar with this kind of territory, and could defenetly pick up odd vibes quicker then he could. "Agreed." he mumbled, looking around a corner into yet an other empty small room. "Evan, please keep up, will you?" The guy made him even more nervous, keeping behind like that.
"yeah, sorry...you know, I was thinking, maybe the vault is somewhere intrigated into the walls? you know? more hidden?" Evan took a big step over something that might have been a sort of small toppled over table at some point, debris crunching under his shoes. "hm. the place does not look exactly like it had any uh...capacity of holding some sort of secret vault, my guess would be it just standing around somewhere." Acey replied. He got the very bad gut feeling that this place would indeed be upstairs, but he had not given up hope yet.

The man ouside shuffeled nervously. For all he could tell, these three where unarmed, or at least, they seemed more like the type of people who would rather run then fight. He scratched the back of his neck nervously. Of course, that Evan guy was the most important of them, in a way. or so he guessed. so if he could get his hands on him, it would not be such a tradgedy if the others got away, right? of course, it would be better to get them all...but boss would be pleased, oh so pleased, if he caught that little rat for him.
The man finally made a decision. Driven by the thought of a possible 'promotion' he made his way towards the window.

It was barely audible, but there was a little creak when the window got pushed further open. Acey froze in his tracks. //that was not a rat//. He turned around, trying to make out anything in the dark behind them. Trouble was, where they currently stood, all the windows where barred up. and hiding behind some rubble was not really a great option. "I think we should head upstairs..." he whispered. Evan stared at him, physically shaking "what? are you crazy?? you have no idea whats up there to..." "look, you can stay here all you want, I will take my chances, thank you" there was now, undoubtedly, steps to be heard in the dark. Evan looked over at Turpin, as if hoping she could talk some sense...not that they had much time for that now, tho...

Turpin kept glancing about her warily. There was something about this place that just kept her on edge. It wasn't as if she wasn't used to real dumps, places like this were all too common in the part of town they were in now. It was... well, she couldn't place it. If she could place it, she'd stay the hell away from it.

She listened to Acey's and Evan's conversation vaguely, her attention drifting onto other matters. She kicked over a pile of debris, trying to see if there was anything solid beneath the stacks of old bottles and broken plastic. Then she heard it, and she immediately twisted towards the source of the noise, her eyes widening.

"Oh fuck," she hissed, trying to keep her voice low. There was definitely someone in the house now. Turpin took a deep breath in, trying to sort out her options in the few moments she had. Her resources were limited now, whoever was in the house could be harmless, but they could also be armed. They could be specifically looking for them. If that was the case, they would be walking into a lion's den. She cursed the fact her own magic was so limited, if she had a little bit more power... Damn. Right. "Upstairs. Now. Both of you, ahead of me. I've got an idea."

For some reason, most likely because he was generally always assuming the worst, Evan did not doubt one second that who ever was in the building was one of the men searching for them. Then again, no one else would
voluntarily come in here if the did not have specific purpose. He felt himself frozen in place, but not for long as Acey grabbed his arm harshly. "you heard her. up the stairs.now." Aceys eyes had adjusted quite well to the dark by now, and he did not like what he saw. He had no idea what Turpin's intentions where, but pretty much anything was better then to stand around and wait.

Practically shoving the other man up the stairs in front of him, he felt his brain racing. if they got lucky, there would be windows, or maybe some sort of holes in the walls upstairs where they could escape from. that would not really solve the bigger picture, but maybe they would at least not get shot then and there.
The other floor looked much like the ground floor, as was expected. it had less litter and obstacles on the ground tho, which could be considered as a plus. there also appeared to be a few more rooms branching from the main floor. While Acey looked ahead scanning the emidiate surroundings for some thing to help them, Evan turned around to look at the girl behind them. His eyes had something pleading, but at the same time the gaze seemed to mockingly ask 'well? whats your great plan?'

There was something assuring about how Acey chose to trust her, but they'd been through a lot in the past few hours. They didn't really have a choice. Funny, to think how this all started with her stealing a wallet. She stayed behind for a moment, only long enough to gather some of the rubbish that was littered on the floor. Once upstairs she took empty crisp packets and rolled up paper, pushing them into a large, plastic bottle. She cupped her hands over the edge of the bottle and blew. The smell of smoke filled the air, tiny sparks could be seen dancing in the bottle, barely burning anything, but causing acrid smoke that tumbled flowed level with the bottle, but then sunk, unnaturally down the stairs.

"Right. Distractions. Evan find the safe, Acey look for a way out of here. This isn't going to work for long." she hissed.

((Sorry for the short post. Heheh.))

Acey nodded in agreement, not wanting to waste any more time then absolutely necessary. Evan surprisingly obliged quickly too, throwing only a quite curious look over his shoulder as he quietly rounded the corner into one of the rooms branching of.

The Mobster downstairs turned his head in confusion, trying to locate the source of the unmistakeable odor of smoke. Nervously, he spinned around, finally getting a glimpse of the smoke flowing downstairs. cautiously he moved closer, his weapon at the ready...

Acey very carefully pushed open a broken window frame and stuck his head into the cool night air. // no, nonono this won't do.// The Drop was too deep. Even for him, maybe if he could kind of roll off and loose some momentum. But defenetively not going to work for someone who was injured. Even if Turpin was only minorly injured as she said, it would be too risky. tilting his head in frustration, he saw what could be their salvation. The room next to him apparently had some sort of old, rusty fire ladder attached to it , or more likely some sort of construction/renovation work ladder, leading into an alleyway. what baffeled him more tho then this all too convenient situation was the fact that someone was currently trying to use it. //I dont believe it!! that little rat//.

Evan could not really believe his luck. not only did he find the safe, he also found the one room with a fire escape. The safe was a cheap, quite small thing, not much bigger then a suitcase. But quite heavy, as he found out. He was about to gather the other guys, when a ugly, but practical thought hit him. He could just leave. they would keep who ever it was occupied long enough for him to just disappear, with the money, and...well he would worry on how to crack that thing open later. He was not proud of the plan. not at all. actually, he was almost ashamed. but he was who he was, and right now, this seemed the safest way to success to him.

Acey snuck back into the hallway, his steps swift but silent. he would tget Turpin in a second, his mind was just set on stopping that guy from bailing on them. He caught Evan with one foot on the ladder, struggeling with the safe. "going somewhere?" he hissed lowly. Evan whirled around, almost falling out of the window "oh-oh its you ah I was just...I...uhm..." Acey slowly closed in on him "you where about to just leave us for dead? running of with the money? thats lower then i thought even you could go" Evan looked down, with Acey being almost in arms reach. mustering all his strength, he growled back "well, if its the money you want...catch."
and with that, he hauled the small safe towards the other man.

It was not like the safe flew far, or was thrown particularry heavily. it was just the utter surprise that caught Acey of guard. He tried to catch the heavy object to prevent it from hitting the ground, uderastimating its weight and momentum. The result was that he got hit square in the chest by it, stumbled backwards and lost his footing. Clutching the safe he fell square on his back with a pretty loud Thud that echoed through the small room. at least the safe did not crash into the ground. Acey however felt like he got hit by a train, having bumped his head too in the fall. He was not badly hurt, but for a few seconds, he just lay there and prayed that a) this whole thing was not as loud as he thought it was, and b) that Turpins distraction worked and bought them some time...at least, she knew in which room he was now.
Evan of course was already down in the alley and sprinting to what he hoped tp be safety...

(aaah...survival instincts XDD. hope that is okay with you :/and sorry for the wall of text. oh, BTW you can play the mobster too if you want to, it might move things a little faster too :))

Turpin opened the door to a room, kicking through the debris that lay on the floor she couldn't see anything that resembled a safe. There was no escape top be found here, there was no way she could make the drop out of the window. Turpin didn't think she'd lost that much blood, but she was starting to feel slightly lightheaded. Turpin clenched her fists and ignored it. She'd be fine, she just needed to get out of this idiotic situation. Out of the corner of her eye she too caught sight of Evan on the fire escape and hissed a series of really ugly swear words under her breath, half of them describing what Evan was, half of them describing what she'd do to him when she caught him.

She guessed which room had the fire escape and ran in just as Acey got hit square in the chest with a safe. She recovered quicker than Acey, pulling the safe off of him. "You okay?" Though she was already using her other arm to try to drag him to his feet. "We need to move, or we're dead." Hopefully Acey wasn't too badly injured.

"I'm going to kill that nasty little bastard. Going to turn him to fucking cinders."

Adrenalin was a lovely thing. Acey was vagually aware that he would have a very very nasty bruise on his chest in the very least, not to mention probably a mild concussion. (that was, if he would live to see the next morning), but he just shoved all of that aside and stood up with Turpin's helping hand, giving a short nod and trying to stifle a coughing fit. knowing that she was very right, he stumbled toward the window and started to climb onto the fire ladder. Even tho he was in state of panick, some logick seeped through.

Both Turpin and him where in no shape to outrun this guy, and the alley behind the buidling was long and without any chance to hide. they might as well stay right where they where if they tried to do that. However...
he looked up. with the building being as old as it was, climbing to the roof was risky business. but it bordered on other buidlings, on which they could make a semi quick escape. plus, and that was really his only hope, the guy whos footsteps where now echoing through the hallway was not too bright. brain acrobatics like thinking of his 'targets' taking the way up rather then heading down seemed out of his league, so he hoped that the mobster would just charge blindly down one side of the alley. Holding out one arm to stop the girl, in case she did not think of that plan as well and would try to take the stairs downwards, he hissed "up". His voice sounded raspy, and he still felt like he could not breathe properly, but he was quite sure she got what he ment. not waiting for any response, he started up the creaking rusty stairs of the fire ladder, hoping she would follow him.

Turpin couldn't help but feel relieved that Acey was all right. She smiled, it was gone in an instant, but it was there. Acey seemed to be okay, but there could easily be lasting damage. (She was wasting time worrying, though, as the person who'd actually been shot this evening. Then again, perhaps she was made of tougher stuff than her companion?)

She picked up on Acey's logic pretty quickly, although whether or not they'd have time to disappear up the fire escape before they were seen doing so was anyone's guess. Making her decision, she decided to trust Acey, but didn't follow him immediately. Instead she picked up the safe, using her own momentum to throw it from the fire escape into the industrial dustbins below. If nothing else, the massive clanging sound it created gave another distraction. She then pulled her self up the stairs, grabbing Acey's wrist as she passed by him, ensuring that they both ended up on the roof in (what she hoped was) good time.

The roof on top of the building was flat and once they reached it, Turpin pulled Acey behind a set of ugly-looking air-conditioning fans. "Sorry. I don't want him seeing us from the street."
