"Thanks. I think I'll be fine though. I've caused enough trouble already and I don't want my presence to bring danger to your army."
With a nod and a wave of his tails, Jack set off, steeling himself for the long journey to come. Alicia waved her talon right back and did not reenter the hospital until he had gone beyond her range of view. As the doctor walked through the gates of the Purine camp, thanking the guards when he passed them, he mused over the idea of a ragtag group of unaffiliated physicians hiding from the war. If they could get organized and construct a hospital not for Purines, not for Imperials, but for everyone, how many lives might be saved?
A precious many, he imagined. Maybe I can finally repent.
