As their feet touched down on the ground again Milo grabbed at Itzal's hand enthusiastically, while Alana was happy to just walk on his other side. She was getting too old for holding hands to be the 'acceptable' thing to do--she could walk just fine by herself without adult guidance. Besides, the diner was in sight now and Kasari had gone outside to start stripping away the chipping paint from the outside.

"Well, yeah...but superheroes are just cool!" Milo said with a wide missing-tooth grin. Alana just smiled, keeping an eye on her mother in the distance while still talking to Itzal.

"That's good. Do you think...are you staying? Like...forever this time?"
"I have been hidden, scorned, adored, worshiped, forsaken, coveted and banished more times than I care to count. But the one thing all those experiences cannot steal from me is the gentle soul I was born with, the kind heart I have molded, and the bright ideals for the future that have lit my way through the darkness of the past."

"That's true." Itzal chuckled a little as he ruffled Milo's hair. He understood Alana's want to be independent, but also didn't let her too far out of his reach. If he needed he could scoop them both up in his arms again, keep them safe from any danger. "I think I have some old comics from when Reed was little sitting in my attic. I'll try to bring them over for you, and we can sit and read them together." He'd surely like the old super hero books.

That... Was a harder question. Itzal thought about it for a moment, reaching over to gently stroke back Alana's hair. "I can't promise forever. But I can tell you that I want to stay for a long time. I want to be there for you and Milo, and your mom. I can't do that if I'm away."

Milo's eyes instantly brightened and he grinned widely. "You have old comic books?" He asked in a rather exaggerated manner. It was still funny to the preschooler to think of adults as having things for kids...especially when they didn't have a kid living with them. The idea only made Itzal that much more awesome in the young boy's mind.

Alana smiled a little more quietly. It wasn't the answer she wanted...but she did appreciate his truthfulness. She was all too aware that adults made up stories sometimes to keep everyone happy...she was glad Itzal was trying to make her happy but tell her the truth at the same time. "Does that mean you're going to come pick us up from the bus stop more often too?"

"Of course I have old comic books! You know, I had a little boy too. You've met Reed, he's my son. We used to read lots of comic books together." It made him sound a bit like an old man to have a grown son, but Itzal didn't mind. He was still technically old enough to be Reed's father, even if that would have made him a teenager. The truth was far too complicated for Milo to understand, not to mention most people were completely unaware that Reed was adopted.

Nodding slightly he laughed a little. "I hope so, I could use the exercise. I'll try to pick you up at least once a week, so that your mom can work on the diner." It would be a long process, but they'd get it done. "I have some-" He was cut off by his phone ringing. "Alright guys, go to your mom." He gave them a gentle push as he answered the phone, unsure who would be calling this late in the afternoon.

"Hello? ....Yes, this is. ...Are you sure? Uhm, yes, I'll be there as soon as I can." He walked back over to where the kids and Kasari were, faking a smile. "I've got some business I have to attend to. I'll be back soon, I hope." He leaned in to kiss Kasari's cheek before hugging the kids. "See you soon, alright?"

The kids both seemed pleased with their answers, grinning to their current father-figure adoringly. When nudged to return to their 'true' parent Milo let out a little whoosh of excitement as he sped towards her waiting arms and promptly embraced her, mouth running a mile a minute as he began telling her all about Itzal's old comics and how they were going to read them together. Alana, however, paused a moment to hug Itzal's leg.

"I'm glad you'll be home for a while...even if it's not forever." The little girl whispered before running off to meet Kasari as well. No one seemed bothered by the call--the life of a traveling musician was a busy one and they had become accustomed to Itzal receiving calls from managers and schedulers at all hours of the day.

Kasari seemed completely surprised by the quick kiss, and Milo made a face but hugged Itzal regardless.

"Hey, don't forget the comics when you come back!" Milo yelled after him.
