No one saw it coming. Not the nurses getting off the night shift, not the doctors getting ready for their morning shifts, or the paramedics who had been on the roads. A thin black mist had developed in the early hours of the morning, just before the sun had started peeking through the clouds. By the time the sun had reached full height, the mist had developed into a blanket that swirled around and lapped at the feet of mystified commuters. Mr. Wilson seemed to not notice as they pecked away at the ground and stray Draculi stopped to curiously paw at the substance but didn't seem to be distressed about it either.

Instead, it seemed to have a calming effect on the city. Doctors reported less emergencies in their hospitals, pedestrians noted less agitation and even traffic seemed manageable around rush hour. According to news reporters, the mist hung around until nightfall.

Also, not sure if we have to play off the first post? I assume no, but again, not sure. Not sure if by 'roleplay post' it means to respond or anything, hehehe; let me know please so I can change or edit accordingly)

After saying goodbye to Lew and Sid, both of whom had given her big hugs (and laughed at the way she’d stiffened up on contact, before awkwardly hugging them back), Sam had said her goodbyes to her replacement trainees. After spending a few days with her and realizing that she knew her stuff and wasn’t just some dead weight woman who would get people killed, they’d warmed up to her, and actually got along with her pretty well, despite her tendency to smack them from time to time.

Sam had finished saying her goodbyes (she refused to say that she teared up just a little) and hopped in the jeep to head back to Aldbourne, eager to get back to her own billet and get some good sleep. After her training with Sobel and the other medics, she was exhausted.

She now found herself standing in front of Captain Winters’ desk, back in Medicai City, bag slung over her shoulder.

“It’s good to have you back, sergeant.”

I love adventurous tales like that. That uplifting feeling that comes from seeing unknown lands and the knowledge that you came across—nothing can replace it! It opens a path from which self-confidence, experience, and important friendships—from the sharing of life or death situations—are born! But hearing it just isn’t the same. I want to create my own magnificent story!

A great adventure!

"Oi, have you heard? Something strange is going on out here." A woman standing on the sidewalk, just out of the front entrance to the hotel she'd been staying in, spoke into her mobile phone. She didn't seem to be in anyone else's way, just standing there, not that she cared if she was. They could go around.

All around her was a strange, black mist, something almost surreal. She wasn't afraid, in fact, she felt relaxed, but that did not stop Hellia from wondering just what the heck was going on.

She heard a sigh on the other end of the line. "Of course not, Hellia. I stayed in the hospital over night." The man seemed annoyed with her.

"That should be everything, then. You're sure I can take this all back with me?" The rexxel's fingers, deathly-pale now that she'd taken off her gloves, thumbed through the box of files painstakingly gathered over the last couple of hours. Her hair had long-since been gathered into a bouncy mass of ponytail, keeping the kinky mass well out of the way. Bright pink eyes crinkled at the corners, their owner turning all of their affection to the only other man in the room. "I really appreciate you taking the time to meet with me, Davey. I know how you feel about sharing your cases, but these are really going to help me out." Her laugh had a touch of nervousness to it. "You just have no idea."

Rhaxxe Onte wasn't a fan of travel, but this particular trip had been necessary. The chance to get some help from her more experienced colleague was too good to pass up, and his resources would help her get a foothold in the much quieter Nabias. Maybe she could even bring some big-city techniques back to the smaller town.

From his chair, a Morning Kitrell reclined and returned the rexxel's smile. The toe of a running shoe kicked gently at one of the many boxes stacked up in his office: the results of long searching and a missed workout. They'd been fruitful, though, so David could hardly say the night had been wasted. "Happy to help, Roxie. Those old files were just sitting anyway; no one fills anything out in triplicate anymore. Some habits are hard to break, aren't they?" The smile he gave her turned wry.

Rhaxxe's fingers stilled on the edges of papers, tapping one idly. Her smile - and that brightness in her eyes - dimmed somewhat. "Yeah. Hard to break," she echoed. Her spartan apartment back home testified to that. Still couldn't make herself invest in new things, even though she'd lived in the same little flat for years now. No matter how nice the couches and clocks and paintings looked in shop windows.

Dr. Real realized exactly too late what he'd done. The kitrell pitched himself forward in the chair, slight brows wrinkled with concern. "Aw, no, Rhaxxe. I'm sorry; I didn't mean to bring it up. It's just... I'm so sorry that you don't feel safe in Medicai anymore. You were a joy to have around. I hated to see you go. But hearing that you're still not in practice, after this long? I'm worried about you, Roxie. I know hospital work is a lot different than field medicine, but if you're really having trouble making the transition... You ever thought, maybe you should see someone...?"

A blush as vibrant as her eyes mounting on her face, the rexxel wrapped her arms around the box. David hated seeing her lower lip quiver like that. Hated even more that he'd been the one to cause it. "I told you, I'm not having 'trouble'!" Rhaxxe spat the last word like a curse. "I just haven't had the right opportunity yet, that's all! You shouldn't waste your thoughts on it."

"Roxie, that's hardly fair-"

"Thank you for your time, David. I won't keep you - I know how busy you are." Tucking the box of papers under one arm, Rhaxxe was out of the office in a few quick steps. Heedless of her friend's attempts to call her back, the feline strode into the sidewalk. She had a very small window of time, of course, before David caught up to her and made her feel awful for the outburst. There was also the smallest chance that he was maybe, possibly right. However, none of that had any bearing on the angry woman just yet. She would clutch her files, pace in front of his office and revel in her anger for just a little bit longer. Seemed like anger was the only thing anymore that reminded her of better days.

At least, she would until she noticed black mist kicking up around her feet. Her trainers were drenched in the stuff, sweeping over the laces every time she lifted her leg. Setting her box on his doorstep, Rhaxxe pushed open the door she'd stormed out of just minutes earlier - to find David just about to open it from his side. The expression on her face forestalled the apology on his lips.

Rhaxxe crouched, bracing one hand on her thigh before dipping her fingers in the mist that swirled across the ground. David leaned over her shoulder. The pair of professionals, utterly flummoxed. "What...is this?"

Viola wandered the city just before dawn. It was her most powerful time, just before the sun came up. When the last stars were twinkling before they became hidden by the sun. It was at this time that a strange most had rolled in. Viola was a little frightened by it at first. Everything set her on edge nowadays.

As she walked it seemed that there was nothing for her to worry about at all.
