12 Days Advent Calendar
The year, and all of its strangeness, had nearly come and gone. As the chilled wind blew and soft snow fell to the ground, many found themselves standing outside of the curiouser and curiouser tavern of the Quest Master. Although that was most certainly what it was, the outside appearance looked a great deal more like a stone castle than a tavern. Even this could hardly surprise one anymore.
As it had always been, it was found not only by those seeking it out, but by those that needed to find it, according to the Quest Master. And, of course, as previous years dictated, everyone in all of the land had been warmly invited.
This was reinforced when the wooden door with a freshly red painted heart burst open, with the sweet scent of freshly baked cookies and roses, revealing the Quest Master in what appeared to be an updated version of their usual cloak that was now lined with red faux fur at the bottom and cuffs, but open enough to show the mixture of leather and minor plate armor beneath.
"Welcome! Welcome, one and all! Come in, out of the cold! Just take care not to get lost in the maze." They said quite warmly and enthusiastically, grinning a cheshire grin, and ushering you, and everyone else, inside.
Taking the first step through, one was met with a small maze of red, white, and red and white rose bushes that even arched over the path. There were only a few dead ends and a handful turns, so it was not all that difficult to navigate through, in spite of the wooden signs that gave horrible directions of "this way," and "that way." It let out to a red and white chessboard floor in the main room that had replaced its traditional one.
All around the tavern was decorated with a plethora of things, from giant, person-size chess pieces, to more roses and other flowers, to giant crafted tea cups and saucers turned upside down to create tables matched up with rabbit shaped chairs. It was all curious and akin to a certain storybook. Different things could be found in every corner; even including a croquet field with many mallets provided and a very long table seemingly set up for tea time that was chaotically, yet thoughtfully piled with array of food, drink, and treats, some seasonal, some thematic, and some not either, with a large chocolate fountain flowing as the center piece. It was surprising that colorful Christmas trees had still been managed to be incorporated in the overall decor.
It had become a tradition now that one wall sported twelve giant giftboxes, numbered through the days, that were carefully secured there. Though, this time, they all sat within their very own flowerbed, their colorful wrapping complementing the strange garden surrounding them. The wooden sign displayed with them read Advent Calendar in red paint.
"Once a day, we're giving out prizes to every guest that joins us for our celebration! And you might see some interesting guests stop by." The Quest Master explained. "Would you care to claim today's prize?"
