.: One Casual Evening (Halloween Raffle!):.

Postby .:Random Event 2:. » 11/15/2011 3:08 AM

~**~

It was a gloomy day - maybe it was the heavy industrial smog that covered this part of The Slums, or maybe it was just that it was a particularly overcast day, but none-the-less it wasn't a pleasant day, and the environment around you wasn't particularly pleasant either. However, despite the uninviting atmosphere, this was perhaps one of the busier - and therefore safer - parts of the Slums. In this particular district, the locals attempted to earn a Keystone or two by setting up a Marketplace of such, and around this time of year they even attempted to decorate with (rotting) pumpkins, candles and anything else Halloween-themed they could get their hands on.

Despite what reason you originally came here for, you had somehow found yourself on the edge of the marketplace. You shuffled down the alleyway, hands stuffed in your pockets keeping a wary eye out - brutal crime in this district was lower, but petty theft still stood at an all time high - and picked your way through the crowd, perusing the markets, until a voice behind you hissed.

Image

"Hey, you there. Kid." You spun around and came face-to-face with a leering Annelidrak. The creature blinked once, pleased that it had caught your attention and continued. "Do you like games? Do you want to win a prize? See, thing is. I have this game I want you to play. It's cheap, only 20 Keystones and once you pay, you go into the draw to win some cool prizes! Here. I'll show you..."

After a short walk, leading you back to his stall, the creature laughed hoarsely. "Well, uh. I should let you know, the prizes are in fact a mystery, but there are a few clues I can give you. Look here."

The Annelidrak tapped a sign hammered onto the side of the stand. "This here has clues about what you can possibly win, and this one -" here he tapped at another sign. " - has all the rules you need to follow. Are there any more questions, or have I interested you enough to enter?"

.: The Prizes :.
Image

* There are SIX prizes in total. Their clues are, as follows:
* Prizes 1 & 2 smell like something died inside them. There's also a feral hissing from time to time.
* There's an odd dark mist rising from Prize 3. The box itself appears pristine compared to the others though.
* Prize 4 smells like candy. Specifically what kind, we aren't sure.
* Occasionally Prize 5 makes an odd rustling sound, and appears to be covered in cobwebs.
* Prize 6 makes no noise whatsoever. Whatever inside it makes a clinking noise, like rocks hitting each other though.

Halloween was always the most wonderful time of the year. Or rather, maybe it was Thanksgiving? Either way, there was candy or food available at either one. So she wasn't really complaining. This place probably wasn't the best to shop for a turkey, but hey, who could be picky with prices these days? Humming a soft tune, the young woman was momentarily distracted when she was accosted by a beady-eyed...bug. Resisting the urge to recoil, she followed him curiously. She liked games, provided they weren't truth or dare...or yahtzee. "All right then," she muttered, rolling up her sleeves and tossing her keystones down. "I'll give it a go."

I love adventurous tales like that. That uplifting feeling that comes from seeing unknown lands and the knowledge that you came across—nothing can replace it! It opens a path from which self-confidence, experience, and important friendships—from the sharing of life or death situations—are born! But hearing it just isn’t the same. I want to create my own magnificent story!

A great adventure!

It wasn't that unusual to see the particular woman wandering the Slums, though it was worth noting most residence wouldn't meet her mismatched eyes as she passed from shadow to street. She'd spotted the Annelidrak likely before it had spotted her, but no matter, she was rather bored and awake in the daylight hours neither a common practice for her."I always love surprises." She murmured sarcastically to the creature as she strolled along behind it, wondering why she hadn't noticed the stall go up. The woman smiled a very unsettling sort of grin at the creature as she leaned against the stall, her arms folded over her chest. "I'll toss my money in for a go." She finally told the creature after several moments of pondering, turning so only her bloody red eye looked half way over her shoulder at it. The silver cuffs and charms tied in her hair chimed softly as she shifted to lay the keystones in the creature's claws. About that same moment her milky moon blue eye caught sight of something quiet far off at the other end of the market place, and a small snarl crossed her lips that she licked away. "I'll be back in a few." She told the creature as she pushed away from the stall, her black tattered trench coat cracking as it shifted on her thin frame. "And you'd better still be here when I do." The words were quiet but promising, and with them hanging ominously the woman began to shift her way through the crowd after whatever or whoever she'd seen.

Bottles smashed, I raised my hand
How can you all even stand?
And why is there joy in this poison? Oh
Faking smiles and confidence
Driving miles to capture this excitement
I can't take anymore

You're never gonna get it
I'm a hazard to myself
I'll break it to you easy
This is hell, this is hell
You're looking and whispering
You think I'm someone else
This is hell, yes
I am in hell

A little Fellox-girl made her way happily through the slums. Despite the fact that this was really not a place for a child, Laksimi was absolutely fearless, no matter how evil the people around her looked. After all, she was the daughter of the companion of the Grim Reaper. If anyone would bother her, she would simply teleport away (even though she wasn't really allowed to teleport, but she guessed no one here would know her parents and rat her out). She had never been here before and really, maybe there were duckies here she hadn't met yet.

Instead, some creature she had never seen before talked to her and offered her a chance at some prizes in boxes. Curious, Laksimi approached them. "Are there duckies inside?" she asked the Annelidrak. "You know, duckies need freedom! You must let all duckies out!" A bit accusingly, Laksimi eyed him. "I will do this! Because I want to free the duckies!" She pushed a few of her keystones towards the Annelidrak. "And I'll make sure you do it right!" With big eyes, Laksimi decided to stay and watch the boxes to make sure no one hurt whoever was inside of them (possibly not duckies, really, but the thought that someone would want something besides duckies never occured to Laksimi because, really, that made no sense since duckies were best!).

I know my dreams are made of you
Of you and only for you
Your ocean pulls me under
Your voice tears me asunder
Love me before the last petal falls

However cold the wind and rain
I'll be there to ease your pain
However cruel the mirrors of sin
Remember beauty is found within

Two young girls slipped through the market, one seemed to be about 8, while the other, 10. They cast glances at each other as they weaved between the people. It seemed that they were communicating somehow...some form of telepathy, perhaps? Nonetheless, as one of the girls was approached by some stranger, the other quickly followed. Reading the rules, the two exchanged a glance. The 8 year old then turned to re-read the prize clues with a sort of detached interest, while her sister turned to cast a cocky grin at the...vendor? Reaching into her pocket, she pulled out a pack of keystones, and with only one glance to double-check the number it contained, she held it up, dangling it over the stand.
"Hey mister, we want to play too!" she declared, dropping the bag of keystones. Her sister turned back from the board and glared at the girl. "Mya, don't you think we should ask Master or sister first?" she hissed. "Look, Mom would want to do this too, no bigs. Besides, I thought you didn't care what Mom thought, Rae. Stay here, I'm gonna go send Mom or someone a Shadow message, be right back." With that, the older-looking girl, Mya, slipped away into the crowd. The younger, Rae, turned to a random pedestrian and sighed. "Little sisters, right?"
You can pretend that when you hear my voice, darling, it's your choice not to fall in.

But it's all an act, 'cause I know exactly what you're wanting. You know it's what I'm wanting

Boy I know what you desire, oh, you're such a bad, bad liar

This could be perfection, or venom dripping in your mouth

Singing like a Siren, love me while your wrists are bound

"Yay!!", said Jackie as she was walking down the street. "More raffles!" She walked down the street with a heavy bounce in her step, almost like she was jumping. When she got to the small stand she saw an Annelidrak. He must be the one holding the raffle., she thought. She walked to the small booth, where a miniscule crowd of people had gathered. "Hello, may I enter the raffle? Here are the Keystones., and with that she placed a bag of KS on the booth.

It was a particularly boring and unproductive day in Toxic's residence, especially since his favorite victim, Ayor, wasn't about. There was no one to scare, at least no one that screamed. These circumstances had driven Cheshire out of his home and into the Slums, a place where even he looked like he belonged, in the off chance that something interesting may have happened. In such an environment, no one seemed to notice that his flesh was marred and rotting, but he was still very much alive and well. He, in fact, sensed the Annelidrak as it approached him, but he didn't offer it the time of day until it pushed for it. The Kuhna's eyes, well, eye narrowed back at the leering creature and, after a moment of brief debate, nodded. "All right, I'll play your game," he spoke, without a moment of hesitation or any more need for explanation. With a cheshire grin, he offered up the keystones which, miraculously, seemed to appear out of thin air and clatter onto the Annelidrak's stall.

The candy corn kuhna had been in the slums searching for the latest black market products to use for her potions when the creepy Annelidrak tapped her on the shoulder. If she had been any other kuhna, she may have jumped right out of her skin, but she didn't. She was used to these kinds of things, and to defending herself from them is she had to. She just peered at the creature, wondering what in the world it wanted.

After it offered her the chance to enter in a contest, the little kuhna smiled just a little darkly. She liked contests, even if the prizes seemed a little... odd. "I suppose it wouldn't hurt to enter," she said with a little sneer. "But this ks could go to much better things. Oh, well. Here you go," she finished with a shrug as she tossed the ks to the creature.

And I was runnin' far away
Would I run off the world someday?
Nobody knows
Nobody knows, and
I was dancing in the rain
I felt alive and I can't complain

She was still adjusting to doing things herself, not having Zein around caused a slight disturbance in her day. The girl was short, average weight, and dressed comfortably in a pullover hoodie, pajama jeans, and flip flops. Her long hair was braided and draped over her arm, resting between her right arm and side, the bangs on her left were braided with beads. Mojave strolled down the alleyway, turning around at the sound of hissing. As the annelidrak explained how the raffle worked, she shrugged. "Sure, I'll sign up." She handed the fee of 20 keystones over.

"Alright. I'm in."
Mortimer was cocky. Cocky, and beautiful. Two things that boys who were raised like he was really shouldn't be. Right? Why is it that the riff-raff always turn out beautiful?
He didn't know what could possibly be in those boxes, but he was willing to take the risk. What was life for, if not taking risks? It was how he lived, and he loved every second of it.
Psssh. Yeah. On the edge.
Well, psychopaths have to do something to keep their homicidal little hands busy, and for today, this raffle would do for Mortimer. Now, to find the KS to pay for it...

How linear we were being today. It was a novelty. Well, if he was being truthful, the real novelty was the fact that the twenty first century, the time he'd been brought up in and new best was beginning to feel strange to him. People assumed time travel was glamorous, oh, well, why don't we just pop back to the dark ages and discuss life over a jug of mead. No. That wasn't how it worked. There was months of paperwork, studies, you had to have a GCSES and a dozen or so A Levels in history (and preferably English, English Lit, Latin, Psychology, Mathematics etc.) for one to even think about travelling fifty years into the past, let alone five hundred! Then there was the forms! Oh, the forms that took three hours work to fill in and then you were given another five of them. It was enough to drive even the most patient time traveller to his wit's end.

"Halloa! What's this, then?" Ah. Twenty first century, who are you, Sherlock Holmes? Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. Now, let's try this again, Horatio, without messing up. "Ah. I mean, er, could I enter the raffle, please? The keystones are right here..." Well, that was a slightly awkward jump back into the present. (More of a fumbling skip, after you've gotten the skipping rope caught around your ankles and fallen face first into the mud yet again.) Though, Horiatio thought to himself as he headed back towards the building for Time Traveller's Pseudonymous (It had a proper name, though no one really cared to remember what), It could have been worse.

We’re all hysterical & going nowhere together.

C’mon rapture. Let’s go bedazzling.

Nothing gets futured without its own spitshine
& I’m already not not not not not not miraculous.

Claywick had heard there was some kind of Halloween raffle going on. Naturally, as a wannabe master trickster, he just had to check the thing out. The Kuhna grumbled impatiently in line, watching as others lined up for the raffle behind his pumpkin "head". As soon as he reached the Annelidrak, he puffed up his chest, looking rather silly as he did. "Hey," he greeted, putting on his toughest voice possible. "So I heard there was a raffle of some sort? Well I want to enter." There was a small pouch tied to his leg, out of which he took twenty Keystones, and handed the cash to the Annelidrak. Hopefully I'll win, Claywick thought, wondering what sorts of neat pranks he could pull of with whatever the prize was.

Yet again, Ylva, was sent out to do another errand. This time it was in the Slums, a place she hated more than Halloween. She walked pass a couple of guys that stumble out one of the bars. This was definitely not a place she would like to stay to long in. She ignored the two drunk males and continued her walk. She looked around the black market stalls. She knew that Ax stall was somewhere around here, but she can't remember exactly where it was. Ylva was getting frustrated by the fact she was lost. The Diosol was about to scream until she heard someone call her. She was interested in what the Annelidrak was telling her. Ylva had enough keystones on hand to enter, but was she willing to enter something that she could lose? What the heck, 20 keystones wasn't much to lose, in the first place. "Ok, I would like to enter the raffle." She spoke softly, unsure if she should do this. Ylva placed the 20 keystones on the table by the mystery box.

The cloaked figure looked pretty harried. "Ugh," it muttered. "Gosh, you've been getting lazy lately."

Well, excuse me for having college apps!

"See? You never did this meta thing. You practically promised yourself you wouldn't do it."

This is non-canon! Now go buy a ticket. The figure rolled its eyes and walked up to the creature.

"I'll enter this raffle," it muttered.
Crossing my heart
Open wide
You're my crystal and clover
All of me
Honestly
Is dedicated to hold you

Swear to God
Double knot
What would you do if I stole you tonight? (Ahh ahh)
Why waste time? (Ahh ahh)

'Cause the world goes on without us
It doesn't matter what we do
All silhouettes with no regrets
When I'm melting into you
'Cause I belong in your arms
I belong in your arms

Before even so much as examining the list of clues, Sori turned in her answer. "Of course I'd like to enter this raffle! What a deal." Okay, so technically it wasn't such a great idea to overexcite herself about gambling, but six prizes increased her odds of winning to the point where she'd be an idiot not to try her luck. Feral hissing, dark mists, candy, cobwebs, and clinking? Fascinating! An adventure was upon her, and she didn't even have to leave town.

The King beneath the mountains,
The King of carven stone,
The lord of silver fountains
Shall come into his own!

His crown shall be upholden,
His harp shall be restrung,
His halls shall echo golden
To songs of yore re-sung.

The streams shall run in gladness,
The lakes shall shine and burn,
All sorrow fail and sadness
At the Mountain-king's return!
