In contrast to the Dead Coast, Sa'fir Coast is jokingly referred to as the world's largest pepper deposit because of its black sand beaches. They attract tourists, who can enjoy the tropical landscape of Barakka without facing its harsh environments. (+2 Endurance)

Return to Sa'fir Coast

Black Beach, Blue Ocean (Open)(Hunt) RE2 Welcome

Postby jackie125 » 01/07/2012 12:45 PM

Volfax was walking along the Sa'Fir Coast, on the famous black beach. The sand was dark as the coal, from the depths of the earth. He had always wondered, why of all the beaches, how this one had black sand. Volfax was always full of un-answered questions, random thoughts, and of course a bit of trivial knowledge. He was always interested in the anomalies of the world.  He loved finding mysterious things, hunting for treasures in long abandoned places, discovering a new species of animal, and adventuring in unknown regions.
Volfax was looking for some rare stones, they were the marker for an ancient door. He had previously found evidence of the long past civilization.
He was on his next adventure before he even knew it.

Volfax was walking down the wave line and suddenly jumped up the beach, going farther and farther towards the grass. A huge wave had just come over the beach, it was so big, it would have easily gone over him. Being a Voltage Fellox, having wet fur was highly uncomfortable, and you could shock yourself by accident. Trying to stay as dry as possibly was probably a good idea. He continued along the beach, trying to stay away from the waterline.

Volfax started to run down the beach, but after only a few strides, he had tripped over something. He had rolled over a few times, and was lying with his muzzle in the sand. He lifted his head, just to see a wave wash over him. It was only a small wave, but it had still managed to soak him quite thoroughly. He scrambled up, and crawled up one of the black dunes. He shook out his tails and fur the best he could, but his fur held the water very well, so shaking it out isn't the easiest thing to do.

Volfax had gotten out as much water as he could. He went back up the beach, were he had come from, to look for what he had tripped over.

He spun back, just to see another wave. He half fell, half ran up the hill. Yet again, he was caught off guard by a wave, but at least this time he wasn't wet. He stumbled through the sand and rocks, back to where he had tripped. He edged closer to the waterline. The waves had uncovered a smooth object, about the size of a grapefruit. Because he didn't have a human form he didn't have fingers, so with some difficulty, he rolled the object farther up the beach.

He dried it off, and inspected it. It was worn from being pushed around in the sand by waves, and was engraved on the flat side. This it what the engraving looked like:
One of Five to find,
Four more of Which to Search for,
To open the Ancient Door

After several minutes of translating, this is what he thought it read: "One of five to find, four more to search for, To open the elder door." This must be one of the stones, he thought.

Volfax placed the stone in his backpack, and carefully zipped it up. He had to search for the other four stones. There was only one problem, he didn't know if they were on this beach. He walked up the beach, collecting anything interesting he found, as long as it wasn't living. He had found a few sand dollars, lots of dry starfish, and some snail shells.

Volfax had always been interested in the ocean, but being a voltage Fellox, always made enjoying it difficult for him. He loved feeling the sand squish between his paws, the salty wind in his face, and the the smell of the fresh ocean air. He felt truly free on the beach. He turned to the ocean, which was much calmer today, was with waves. So Volfax decided to venture down to the waterline.

He looked over the ocean and out, farther then he could swim, there was a pod of whales. He couldn't tell what type they were from this far away, but they were majestic all the same.

After the whales had passed by Volfax figured he would get some sleep. The twilight was coming and the sky was almost purple. The night was coming, and he needed to find somewhere safe to sleep. He climbed up a bank on the opposite side of the beach. There was a forest, full of maple, elm, oak, and fir trees. This time of year it was rather cold, so he decided to sleep in an evergreen tree. It was a little sticky, but it would help him not to fall out of it.

In the morning, he awoke and realized he was covered in sap. He went down to the water, and tried to wash out the sap from his fur.

Volfax wiped his paws in the sand, in attempt to clean them. All he succeeded to do was get them even dirtier. He wiped his sandy paws on a smooth rock, which hurt a little, but he got the sand off. He finished wiping off all four of his paws, but when he tried to walk it hurt. He turned over his paw and saw he had worn it raw. He went over to sit in the grass.

He crawled up the rocky hill, each step more excruciating than the last. By the tine he reached the top of the hill there was a steady flow of blood from his feet. He wiped the in the soft short grass. He sat in the grass, not where he had wiped his feet (there was blood there).

Volfax looked out into the forest, into the darkness. Even in the middle of the day, no sunlight penetrated the thick canopy. The tree he had slept in was on the very edge of the huge forest, looking out over the beach and the wavy ocean.

He looked down to his bloodied paws, hoping no dreadful thing would wander out of the forest  or the water, in search of his blood. The scent of blood was heavy in the air, hopefully he was the only thing in the arena, or this might end badly. He went back up into his tree, and stayed there until the sun had set, and the only sound for miles was the thundering of the mighty waves.

Volfax was hunkered up in his tree. He was really worried about the animals in the forest, but all he could hear was waves, and the rapid pounding of his heart. He cautiously looked around down at the bottom of his tree. He couldn't see the bottom of it even though he was only a few meters up. He looked all around him, realizing something he had overlooked before. He was surrounded by mist from the ocean. He must have slept through it yesterday. He would have to wait, because running around blindly with scary animals isn't a very appealing thought.

A little while later Volfax slowly climbed out of his tree, and towards the still foggy ground. He noticed the fog was much thicker the closer to the ground, it was probably because the ocean was colder than the air. He decided to go back into his tree until he could actually see the ground. He climbed up, but didn't get very high because he couldn't see. Well, that and the fact he had hit a few branches on the way up...

Volfax had a very sore head, he had hit it climbing back up the tree. He he just sat there waiting for the fog to clear and rubbing his head. He paws were sore too, he had scraped them coming up the hill to the forest.

Once the fog had cleared enough to see for a few yards around himself, he climbed slowly down the tree, wary of the projecting branches. When he had reached the ground he wandered towards the ocean. He walked closer and closer to the ocean, but suddenly he tripped and fell down a small hill. Of course, Volfax had forgotten about the cliff/hill that connected the beach and the surrounding forests.

After a short tumble, and a face-full of sand, he was on the beach. He looked out on the ocean, which was rather foggy. He could hear the waves, and that was enough not to fall into them.

Volfax was just walking down the beach. The fog had cleared completely, so he could actually see now. He still didn't know what to look for, though. He had read about these stones in books, but he had only ever seen them in reality two days ago. That was when he had found the first. He might have been one of the first people in the world to find one. Okay, well maybe not to find one, but he was the first to know what he was looking for.

Volfax decided he was getting rather bored just walking, so he figured out a game, he would try to walk as close to the water as possible, while avoiding waves, without getting wet. He succeeded the first few waves, but he tripped and a wave washed over him, making him saltier and wetter than he was before.

Volfax was rolling in the sand. It was a very undignified and embarrassing thing to do, but it was drying him off. He was very sandy, but he would rather be sand than wet. The sand was black too, so he looked much darker than usual. He wanted to wash off, but the only clean water he had was for drinking.

Stuck with this dilemma He decided he would walk down the beach until he found a stream running through. He might have to walk all the way down the beach, but he was determined to find fresh water.

Volfax, by this point was stumbling down the beach. He wasn't thirsty, he had water. He was just warm, the heat of the sun had made him pretty much delirious. He was wandering, I don't think he even knew what he was doing. He reached a stream. He had no clue. He just kept walking, until he actually tripped and fell face first into it. "I FOUND IT!" Then, he realized he was alone. Feeling rather ashamed, he went deeper into the stream, and washed out his paws and fur.

After being thoroughly embarrassed by himself, and even though there wasn't any one there, Volfax decided to head back to his tree. He was walking through the pebbly sand near the waves when he looked down at his feet. He saw an oddly shaped rock. He picked it up the best he could with his paws to look at it. He saw some larger waves so he decided to head higher up the beach.
He sat down on a large flat stone and proceeded to inspect the rock he had found.

Volfax turned it over and over trying to find something about the origins of the interesting rock. He thought it was almost star shaped. It didn't look very broken, as though someone had just rubbed it in the sand for a little while, not thrown it into the ocean and crashed against rocks. He wiped it with his paw and a layer of sand, dirt and dust came off of its face. He scratched it more, and some symbols became visible.
One to Another
First to second, second to third
I to the next, to the next, and to the next
I am Second, the remaining three
HidDen from the evil eye
Are to be found to find the gate

This one was rather long, a whole paragraph. He didn't want to decipher it here so he stashed it in his pack and continued to walk to his home-tree.

Once Volfax had reached his home on the beach he put his pack high up in the tree. He didn't want to take any chances, especially with all the wildlife around here. He had hung it around the sturdiest branch near the thick one he sleeps on.

He climbed down the tree, wanting to look around a bit more before the dark descended over the beach. He did not want to be on the beach during the night. There were to many things that might eat, injure, or capture him. He might even get sucked into the ocean by a wave. He continued on his path down the hill, careful not to slip this time.

Volfax stepped onto the smooth grainy sand and looked around. He wanted to search by the water, but the waves were much too vicious to go near. He shuffled along kicking sand, hoping to uncover some ancient treasure. But, to him treasure didn't mean something that would make him rich or famous.  He just wanted to find something old, something bizarre, something... Special.
