Volfax carefully walked down the stairs. He knew not was he was going to find below, he expected the worst. There might be a starved beast that has never seen the light of the over-world, or some poisonous seaweed that will get stuck to you and cause you to break out in hives.
After causing himself a lot of trauma, he reached the bottom of the steps. He peeked around the corner, to scout for danger. Nothing. He couldn't smell anything either, only the musty air of ancient times. He walked out from the corner slowly, as to not alert anything that might be there, but there really was nothing there. He stood up straighter and continued walking into the darkness.

Though it was dark, Volfax could still see. His eyes were very good in the dark. He could smell too, even if all there was to smell was the musty air. Volfax was wandering through the dark chamber, or tunnel, he wasn't really sure. He knew it had been nearly twelve hours since he had been under the water. He was tired and wanted to sleep, but he didn't know if it was safe. He couldn't sleep until he found what he was looking for, only then would it be safe.

Volfax was nearly asleep on his paws as he wandered into the next room, hardly able to keep his eyes open. He stepped slowly, as not to trip or fall. He saw light up ahead, but what on earth could be causing light down there?

Very scared, Volfax crept up to the door way, and to the light on the other side. He didn't know what to expect and the light was hurting his eyes after being in the dark so long. He cautiously looked in his eyes watering, and saw something very strange. He had just walked into what looked like a huge hall. Torches of bright green fire were hung along the walls. Many symbols lined the walls. After reading them he knew one thing: It was here.

Volfax ventured farther into the hall, to find a huge bonfire. The fire in this was not green, but blue. He skirted around the edge of it, but no heat was emanating form it. It was cold. Hmm... That's weird., he thought.

Volfax was excruciatingly tired. He figured he would sleep under one of the torches, seeing that the bonfire provided no heat. He went over to one of the torches closest to the doorway. He made sure there wasn't anything around, but you can never be sure. He tried to feel at home, listen to the waves and imagine he was in his tree.

When he woke up, he didn't know what time it was only that he felt more rested than he had in a long time. The sound of the waves weren't as loud as they had been. There must not be much wind on the surface. He missed the surface, but he had to find the stones.

Volfax was still rather asleep. He was stumbling around the hall, when something bizarre happened. The cold fire suddenly went out. Without warning the flaming green torches brew all the brighter and the wirting on the walls lit up.
only he who is pure of heart,
knowledgeable in the ancient tongue
observant for the un-obvious,
and willing to risk all
will find what he seeks

The door at the far end was rumbling now. It was going to open, for the first time in centuries. And for him... Volfax was so excited he could have screamed, but he dared not. The door was open, his quest was more then half over.

Though the green fires around him were bright, Volfax had eyes only for the stone. It was octagon shaped, and was in perfect condition. Unlike the other stones which were weather worn, there was not a scratch on this one. He had left his bag on the surface so he would have to carry it up in his mouth. This would be an interesting climb.

Volfax clutched the stone in his grip, as he started his ascent. He walked up the staircase to the middle floor of the cave. As he was leaving the staircase closed to it regular form, the floor. He looked around trying to remember where the chute was that he had fallen down. It couldn't be far, the room was rather small. He walked around the circumference of the room and soon found the slide.

Volfax was clawing his way up the chute, it wasn't very steep, but the bottom was very slippery. It was a bit green, and the seaweed made it very slick. He made sure his paws didn't stray down onto the seaweed, or he would surely fall back down. He was at the top of the slide, so he placed the rock out of reach of the sloped tunnel. He jumped out of the tunnel and onto the flat rock floor. He was happy to know he was close to his home now.

Swimming back to his home in the tree, Volfax clutched the stone in his mouth. He was struggling to stay above the water with the stone, but he was close enough to shore that if he went under he just had to push up off the bottom. He was happy to feel the wind against his fur, and the sand in his paws. As he walked onto the beach, he shook off his fur and sprinted towards his tree. Nothing could have dampened his mood.

He climbed up the tree as fast as he could without dropping the stone, or running into any branches. He reached the branch with his bag strung around it. He made sure everything was there and stashed his new stone in with the rest of them. He would have to be extra careful with them now.

After all the excitement of the underwater cave, Volfax just wanted to sleep. His muscles were sore from the swimming and climbing, because he hadn't really done either in a few days. He crept into his nest slowly as he could. He was happy to be safe, but he needed to get on with finding the stones. What he needed right now was a good night's sleep, without interruption or fear of dying during the night. He was just were he needed to be safe, happy, and asleep in his nest, high in a tree. He was going to sleep fine tonight.

Volfax woke to a weird sound. He had slept wonderfully, the best in days. He woke without a bit of tiredness. He looked to the beach, where the waves were massive and the wind was screeching. The storm must have come overnight. The beach was wrought with bits of debris. The beach was quite a chunk smaller, too. The tide was in  and the waves were reaching half-way up to the tree line. He walked carefully along one of the thick branches that spread out from the tree. He was being extremely careful. The wind was throwing the trees around like twigs in a breeze.

Volfax was climbing out of that tree ever so carefully. He waited to move once the wind paused. He didn't want to be thrown out of a tree that high off the ground. He would surely be paralyzed. He continued his slow descent and avoided the billowing branches.
Once he reached the bottom, he realized the wind was even stronger at ground level. Leaves were whipping around, dancing in the strong wind, like a hurricane. The wind was vicious and the waves were pulverizing the shore. All you could hear was the howl of the wind and the crunching of the sandy beach-rocks.

Volfax was trying to walk into the wind, but it was burning his eyes. He would be blind if anything hit him going this fast. Using his tail he shielded his face and went to hide in a cluster of rocks. Luckily he had brought his bag, it wouldn't be safe to climb back up the tree, swaying as it was in the wind. He would have to shelter in the rocks until the storm was passed, the tree was much too dangerous to sleep in with this wind. The rocks would have to be enough shelter to last him a few days, at least.

Volfax was huddling against one of the largest rocks, trying to get warm. He was having a bit of difficulty with this though. The rocks kept heat well, but there wasn't anything to warm them with. Usually the heat of the sun would have kept them warm but no sun shone through the thick dreary clouds. This is why he was trying to warm them with his body heat. At least it wasn't raining, that would just be plain terrible.
Volfax had thought of a new idea. It would be awfully hard to do but if it worked, his shelter problem would be over. He just had to collect some sticks, big leaves and rocks.

Volfax had ventured into the windy forest. He needed to find supplies. He found some sticks that would last through the gale. He carried them back two at a time, he had found six in total. After the three trips with the sticks, he headed back into the woods to find some big leaves that weren't ripped or torn. They had to be whole, or at least mostly whole. He walked into the forest in search of a tree that still had leaves on it. It wasn't too hard to find, but the ones he found only had a few leaves on each branch. He picked up a mouth-full and went back to the pile of rocks. He stashed them under a small ledge in one of the rocks.  Unfortunately the ledge wasn't big enough for him to get under.

Volfax had brought back several mouth-fulls of leaves and started his shelter project. He propped up the stick against one another in the shape of a "V". He made two of these, across from each other and put a another stick across the top to support the roof and the frame. He Paced the other stick going across the other way, so it would be strong enough. He placed the rocks around the sticks to keep them in place. He realized something: the leaves wouldn't stay in place. He needed to find something bigger. Something that he could wedge in place.

Volfax was, yet again, walking through the forest. He was thinking too. He needed to find something sturdy enough to hold up against the wind. He was walking through a part of the forest rather deep in, so the wind wasn't so strong, just a heavy breeze. He turned because he thought he saw something and a small twig hit him in the face. "Ow!" He exclaimed. Then he got an idea. Branches!, he thought. He grabbed the branch that had hit him and broke it off the tree. He managed to get a few branches in his mouth, and a fair sized pile on the ground. He would have to come back for the rest, so he made his way back to his make-shift camp.
