Return to Tengel Rainforest

An Expedition (Contest)

Postby jobiehanna » 09/05/2011 7:16 PM

"So, you've heard rumor of a band of talking talis in the Roraldi Forests before, right? But have you heard of a band of talking kuhnas in the Tengel Rainforest? Ah, I didn't think so," a loud voice could be heard above the various jungle noises if you had happened to be walking by. And, the creature speaking sure hoped you heard her as you walked by. It was her job to sell this expedition, whether you believed it or not was your choice.
The rather wild looking purple lucain would stare at  explorers as they walked by, trying to get them to join her expedition into the forest. She had chosen the entrance to the forest that was closest to the nearest village so that others would see her and hear her as well. She needed some crazy explorers to come with her. "Anything you find, you keep!" This last part caught the attention of a few explorers. The lucain smiled wildly and pulled out a brochure out of seemingly nowhere. "Just read this," she said with an impish grin.
The pamphlet she handed you had some pretty images of scenes in the Tengel, a long with a few cute kuhnas and then some rather angry looking ones. Other than the pictures, the pamphlet said:

KUHNA HUNT!
A hunt in the Tengel Rainforest, hosted by your truly, Sahara Mockson. This hunt isn't to look for wild creatures like moonlings and what-knots, but the elusive wild kuhnas of the Tengel. Some say they don't exist, but I assure you, this isn't a wild goose chase. Just come on over, sign your name, and the hunt will begin. Don't be shy!

Rules:
1. No whining.
2. You must have been a member of Evelon for at least 2 months.
3. One prize will be given per roleplayer, no matter how many pets you bring in for the hunt.
4. Once you have won something, you will be allowed to leave.
5. There will be a posting order.
6. Now, when I say kuhna hunt, I mean that you will be able to find kuhnas in this hunt, but there is a small chance you will find something of lesser or equal value.
7. Be patient.
8. Don't get mad if you don't win a kuhna, at least you got something for free, right?
9. Roleplay your pet(s) meeting the lucain.
10. If you do not post within three days and have not PMed me, then you will be disqualified.
11. The pets will appear randomely and will be controlled by me. You have to find some way of capturing them.
12. If you have read all these rules, please comment somewhere in your entry post about flying monkeys. Thankies. (; Never mind, just make sure you read all the rules. :)
13. If you have any questions, shoot me a PM and I will answer. If it is something that I missed here, for instance, I will update this list. You can also post here.
14. Rules are subject to change.

Positions (Also posting order):
1. Zoophilos
2. Nyxia
3. Eunwon
4. closed
5. closed

After giving you a chance to look the pamphlet over, the purple lucain pulls it away and pulls out a sign up sheet. She grins and hands you a pen. "You know you want to," she said.

((After you post, wait for me to go on to the next post please. :3))

And I was runnin' far away
Would I run off the world someday?

Re: An Expedition (Contest)

Rayim was on his way back from visiting Mike and Anthony.  The anthro kuhna loved visiting those two.  Exploring strange places and seeing new sights was the passion of his life, but by now, he had already seen and explored much of Evelon.  That was why he liked visiting the two young men; they came from another place, outside Evelon.  Through them, he was learning about a whole new world, the likes of which he had never seen before.  He had heard of people being pulled into Evelon from other worlds before, but he had never met personally anyone from another world.  It was all very exciting!
Thinking on this while going his merry way, something on the wall of the building caught his eye.  He stopped to look.  A poster advertised an expedition to the Tengel rainforest.
The Tengel rainforest, eh?  That was one of the few place in Evelon that he hadn't fully explored yet.  For that reason, he was eager to visit there again.  This was a golden opportunity.
What about Anthony and Mike, though?  They were still new to Evelon.  Was it a good idea to leave them alone in Aldrect now?  Yeah, sure, they would be fine.  Anthony had a good job at the zoo and there were sure to be plenty of co-workers willing to help him if he needed it.  They could do without Rayim for a little while.  So then, on to the Tengel!  The flying monkies awaited!

A few weeks of traveling later, Rayim was roaming about the small village to which the poster had directed him.  Eventually, the shouting of the purple lucain reached his ears. He came right over.
"Looking for kuhna's in the Tengel rainforest?" he said, perusing the pamphlet she gave him.  "Talking kuhnas?  I'm a talking kuhna!"  He flashed her a toothy grin, and morphed to his kuhna form.  "I would love to meet my wild brethren living in the Tengel!  Sign me up!"

The pair were a rather unusual one passing into the forest, defiantly not quiet what would be expected at the very least. The man was fairly tall, standing at 5'11", and dressed more like a soldier than an explorer; the woman a petite thing of 5'3" and looking more at home in a night club than a forest. "I don't see why Eilya thought you should come along, I did just fine getting out of this forest when I woke up." She grumbled at him as they walked. For his part the man stayed silent, letting the small hisses and clicks of his mechanical arm be the only noise he made. Leaving her huff in annoyance and walk a few steps a head of him, "I personally think this is a massive waste of time. And..." She was cut off by a flesh hand slapping itself over her painted lips.
Chaos had somehow heard the voice at the edge of the jungle above Ayami's chatter and with her silenced for a few seconds was able to locate the body which belonged to the voice. Wordlessly he pointed to the woman watching them, and without waiting for Ayami took a few purposeful strides to the wild looking woman. Before Ayami had a chance to protest he'd taken hold of the pamphlet, he didn't bother to really look to closely at it; instead he stared back at the woman with emotionless unblinking eyes. "We'll come." He told the woman in a monotone, even voice giving away nothing of the way he felt about even being in this place. "Right Ayami, as long as we're planning to just trek around. Might as well see something worth while."
Having recovered from the indignity of being silenced in mid-sentence and realizing that he'd just dragged her into something else, Ayami actually did pretty well to hide her rage and murderous intentions towards the man from anyone else looking at them. "I guess, if you really want to trek around with a bunch of other people, love. I see no problem with it either then." A too sweet smile on her dark colored lips as she smiled to the woman. "Yes, I think my boyfriend is right. We'd love to join you." She looked the booklet over a bit more carefully than he had before handing it back to the woman. "I'm Ayami, and my...boyfriend here is called Chaos." She could from the corner of her eye see the glare he was shooting her, that would teach him to side track her ever again.

(((Since I'm tired of waiting for people to join, I'm just gonna start this. :3))

Sahara looked at the three explorers that had just shown up. They seemed a little... odd. She tilted her head and grinned mischievously and snatched the paper away after they had signed their names. Then she tilted her head toward the forest. "Are you guys ready or this?" The forest loomed ahead of them, dark and foreboding. "Let's get going then," she said cheerily, starting to make her way toward the forest. Then she paused, "Well, are you three coming or not?"
Sahara didn't plan on leading them through the forest. She intended for them to split up, but she supposed they could stay together for now at least.

Rayim didn't have to wait too long before two more explorers signed up for the hunt - a man with a rather wooden demeanor who seemed to be part cyborg, and a painted woman who looked like she should be at a city party, not in a forest expedition.  Rayim could tell they were both lucains, and they seemed an odd couple to him, but he only said, "Hi, there!  I'm Rayim!"
No one else showed up, so finally Sahara headed toward the forest, urging them forward.  Rayim hesitated only to morph to his kuhna form (he had morphed back to anthro earlier) and heave on his hiking backpack.  He prefered to travel through thick vegetation or over rough terrain in kuhna form.  He marched boldly after Sahara, pushing aside ferns and ducking under branches in the way, unconcerned about the forest's foreboding look.

Re: An Expedition (Contest)

Postby Eunwon » 09/07/2011 11:34 PM

Loso, once again, managed to get himself completely lost. However this time smack-dab in the middle of the Tengle Rainforest. He hated when this happened - lost with no particular means of getting out. But that was his life now, always on the run, and always, well, rather lost. After getting kicked out of heaven with all his powers drained, and accidentally landing on earth, luck had never been with poor Loso. Honestly, he deserved worse - after all, he was supposed to land in hell - get eternally punished and all that. That was his punishment for the crime he did. But Loso didn't like to bring that up, what made him lose his position and ruin his life was completely between Loso and himself. In the end, landing here instead of down there, Loso used up his last little ounce of luck.

He had just lost track of the angels, today they were an innocent, fruit-selling salesman and his son, right on the outskirts of the Tengel Rainforest. After a long chase, the two disappeared, enjoying the torment they gave Loso, making him be on watch at all times. Sure, they could've caught him by now, but this was just a silly game for them. But the more time they gave him, the better. Currently in his Diosol form, Loso hopped timidly, eyes wide open for any signs of rabbit-eating pythons. In unpredictable environments like this, it was always safer to be a rabbit. Quicker reflexes and faster reactions. If Loso could have chosen his other form, it would definitely not have been a Diosol. Maybe a Paragon, or a Khimara. But no, a rabbit. Nonetheless, Loso continued hopping cautiously through the forest, there was a light drizzle and his coat was a little darker than normal. Hopefully someone would show up soon, his only wish was that they wouldn't try to eat him.

After thirty minutes or so of trekking, Loso came to an abrupt stop. He had heard a voice, he was sure of it. Peeking around, he caught sight of a loud looking purple lucain. Hidden behind a shadow of a tree, Loso stopped and listened.

Kuhnas...? Talking Kuhnas...? What was this? A little odd and rather mad, but to admit a friendly little companion wouldn't be all to bad. He was sick of traveling alone, and was pretty starved for some socialness - he had been alone for the past three months. Still back in the shadows, Loso watched as she recruited three members to this 'hunt'. It was always safe to just watch and listen first, if nothing to alarming happened, perhaps Loso just might join. Though really, he should probably get into human form.

As a human, Loso had jet black hair with tints of red. His eyes were a glowing amber, and his skin was smooth and creamy. He appeared around the age of nineteen. He could've been rather attractive, if he wasn't looking so shabby. His hair was all over the place, and he was wearing a worn-down black jacket he rescued from the garbage. His jeans were dirty and torn, and his red converses were muddy and a large hole was on the bottom of the left shoe. Loso looked up to find the group leaving. Hoping to catch them just in time, he stepped out of the shadows. "Wait," he called, his voice surprisingly soft, but still low. "Before you leave, mind if I come with?"

(( ooc; Sorry I didn't post earlier. If it's to late to join, feel free to say so and I'll leave. If I can stay, I'll put a human form pic up soon. ^^ ))

And, the posting order is now:
Me, Zoophilos, Nyxia, then Eunwon))

Sahara heard a voice behind her and spun around to see a young man coming their way. Her golden eyes flashed angrily for a moment, as if she didn't like this man's lateness. She sighed and decided that it didn't really matter if someone else came along. After all, it was them taking the risk of encountering a rabid kuhna. "Alright, you may join," she said rather mischievously once more. Then she turned back to her group. She felt odd being the only lucain in her lucain form, but decided she would stay as is for now. She checked the newcomer over, wondering why he looked so ragged. She shrugged and decided not to ask, since it wasn't her business. "Let's get going," she said once more. She spun around once more and began leading the group into the forest.

Ayami smiled at the kuhna before looking back to Chaos and rolling her eyes, "Now look what you got us into." She grumbled at him, following behind the kuhna and woman. Glancing back at the voice she turned halfway, motioning for the man to follow them. Chaos just smirked pushing his way in front of her, his mechanical arm crushing several vines and small branches. "Show off." She growled from behind him as they moved slowly to follow the pair already in the lead. The damp smell of the humid earth and warm jungle flora assaulted her senses, causing her to wrinkle her nose in an attempt to stop the sensation from bothering her so much. Still the soft sounds and smells of the jungle were enough to sooth her into accepting her arrogant companion and this all to unexpected detour from the original journey.
Chaos kept ahead of her stomping down branches and clearing a path to keep Ayami from getting tangled in anything or worse trapped all together and slowing down the expedition. He'd seen and heard the final person to join them and nodded curtly towards the new comer, something he'd hoped was a more welcoming gesture than what it probably looked. He didn't spend much time with that thought, far more concentrated on low hanging branch in front of them, which he'd pushed aside before tossing the half rotted thing towards a heavily over grown area to their left. "C'mon Ayami, lighten up and keep up." He teased moving a bit ahead of her trying to make her hurry.
((Sorry if I'm out of turn but now I'm just confused.))

((Sorry to confuse you.    After this post, it will be Zoophilos's turn, then Nyxia, then Eunwon. I hope I cleared that up.  ::3: ))

At the purple lucain lead the way, she could hear the voices of her companions chattering behind her. They were mumbles, so she didn't catch all that was said. But that didn't really matter anyway. She was here to find some kuhnas and lead these folks to find one of their own to take home. As they walked the jungle grew denser and darker. She just hoped they run into some kuhnas soon, or this would be very boring.

(( OOC; I'm so sorry! For some reason your post didn't show up. Do you think it'd be ok if Zoophilius just went now, and then in could go back to normal. My apologies. >.> ))

"Thanks." He replied, saying no more, but lifted his hand up to the man who nodded at him. His voice wouldn't be heard much, he wasn't really planning on being a social, happy, guy. That wasn't who he was. And, besides, Loso's untrusting nature didn't approve of making friends or even acquaintances. Friends wasn't why he was in this hunt, he was here to find a loyal companion to ease his lonely heart. Loso would probably never have a single friend in his life - one or two non-human companions would do the trick. Bottom line: if they weren't going to be with him ALL the time, they weren't going to be with him at all. For who knows, when he wasn't around maybe they were murderering people or something equally terrible. He would probably never see these folks again, so why bother having an optimistic attitude?

Nonetheless, Loso couldn't be completely rude. He would just be right in-between, not being nice - but not being mean. Not being happy, but not being sad or mad. Not making small talk, but answering a couple questions would be bearable. As much as everybody would like to call him unfriendly, it wasn't that. Had angels not been taking forms of everyday people once or twice a week, Loso would probably be a more friendly guy. He'd never be talkative though, he wasn't born out-going. So, unfriendly? No. Untrusting? Most definitely, and with reason.

As the group started their hike in the forest, Loso stayed a few feet behind. Occasionally he brushed some vines away from his head, or jumped over mud piles, but other than that, not much was going on. He'd take that as a good thing.

Re: An Expedition (Contest)

Postby Zoophilos » 09/08/2011 10:32 PM

Just after they started, one more person came belatedly to join the expedition - a dark-haired, rather shabby looking young man.  Rayim thought he looked like he had already gone on a short expedition in the Tengel, albeit one for which he had not been quite prepared.  He didn't look prepared for this one either.  Well, maybe Rayim was prepared enough for both of them.  He smiled and greeted him the same way he had greeted the two lucains, before turning to follow Sahara again.
The jungle foliage was so thick, after just a few minutes of travel it was impossible to see any sign of the village from which they had come.  Thus how it was so easy to get lost in the Tengel; one could pass within a mile of a village without even knowing it was there.  Rayim had of course brought maps, but they didn't completely eliminate the danger of getting lost.  That just made the expedition even more fun for Rayim, though.  What was a good jungle trek without a little danger to get the blood pumping?
This wasn't his first trip to the Tengel, and reminiscing on his previous trips soon activated Rayim's tour guide impulses.  He was jabbering away on facts of the Tengel rainforest before he even knew he had opened his mouth.
"These Lacy ferns we are walking through are common all over Evelon, but did you know they grow to a larger size in the Tengel than they do anywhere else?"
"Pollies are the most common birds in the Tengel.  Any brightly-colored creature you glimpse fluttering among the branches is most likely a Polly."
"Many rare species live in the Tengel.  If you keep your eyes peeled, you might see a Kamo Kuhna, a Canopy Garudor, or even a Coatl Battleheart!  If we do see a Coatl Battleheart, though, we had best hope it doesn't see us!"  And so it went...

Chaos chose to ignore the kuhna's ramblings in favor of clearing out a path and keeping them close to the leader of there little tryst. More interested in the scenery around him but he was sure the ever social Ayami was partly enjoying herself, even if they were off track and in the wrong part of the jungle for what she wanted. The humid air around them made the joints in his mechanical arm stiffen a bit, causing them to whir a bit louder than he'd have liked but that minor detail was quickly over looked as he pulled aside some vines keeping his eyes locked on Sahara's back as they moved. "Don't get lost Ayami, I won't go looking if you do." He grumbled back to her, never once looking back though.

Ayami was busy listening to Rayim's facts about the forest, having fallen back a few steps to walk with him. "Wow all those things are really here?" Her question an honest one, as all she remembered was the nasty Chimerantula which had attacked her and Kimi. "There are also a fair amount of ruins hidden in the under growth, that's kinda what we came here looking for." She smiled, maybe this little detour wasn't so bad after all she pondered. She glanced up at the canopy in a bit of wonderment, eyes scanning for any signs of the birds Rayim had mentioned when she caught Chaos' words. "You'd have to, Far and Eilya would pissed if you left me out here." She poked back, more humorously than she'd meant to. Looking back to Rayim she couldn't help the slightly mischievous smile she had, "Ignore him, honestly he's more bluster than bite or bark for that matter." She told the kuhna, looking forward again.

Sahara continued leading the group of explorers deeper into the forest. She really didn't know what she was doing, she was just going. She listened to the chatter of the kuhna behind her and smiled a bit. The little guy sure did know his facts.
A short while later they came upon a path. It lead in two different directions, but there was also the choice of just going on and ignoring the trail. The purple lucain tilted her head and turned to her small group. "We can split up now," she began. "Or, we can stay together." She looked from face to face, trying to read what they were thinking. She wasn't really a mind reader, so that didn't get her far. "Your choice," she added with a sly smile.

Re: An Expedition (Contest)

Loso was still a couple feet behind everyone else, but that didn't stop him from hearing the Kuhna's constant chatter. Deeper and deeper they traversed into the jungle, and Loso wondered just where these talking Kuhna's were. Though he assumed it wouldn't be an easy task, he'd never seen a talking Kuhna, apart from Raymin, before. But Loso had begun to doubt himself, how we he even get out? He was not familiar to this territory. Being unfamiliar meant being unprepared, and being unprepared led to danger. Loso was sure he had enough danger in his life already. Still, Sahara must know all about the jungle, and from what he had observed so far, Rayim and Ayami also were knowledgeable about the Tengle Rainforest. Loso definitely wasn't, he'd never had a reason to learn. His three months on earth were plenty busy getting chased by angels, and in Heaven, who cared about a rainforest? But despite his little knowledge, Loso wasn't scared. If he could escape angels, he could hopefully escape anything else chasing him. Then again, monsters were bound to be faster, stronger, and surely had no problems with killing. He did have his Diosol form, providing more agility, and opened up opportunities to fly or hide. Let's just hope he wasn't put into a life-threatening situation. Sahara's voice broke his train of thought,

"We can split up now. Or, we can stay together. Your choice."

The moment they'd all been waiting for. Not? Depends on the person. Loso wasn't quite sure what he wanted to do. He could see where the trail split, and based off that you had two simple options. If you were adventurous enough, you could probably just go off into the jungle, not even following the trail. So in all, three options. Loso weighed his choices. He could stick with the group, or at least Sahara if everyone else broke off. That would be much safer, but Loso was much more of an independent guy. Going off on his own would add danger, wheter it be a cannibal tribe, a man-eating python, or angels. Loso highly doubted the angels would come back, they'd already came today. But you could never be sure, angels were unpredictable like that. So what should he take, safety or danger? Independence or not? He really didn't have much to lose. If he died, well, who knows what would happen? It couldn't get worse than being eternally punished, something Loso knew was bound to happen at some point. Still, perhaps he could live life a little longer? Ugh. Decisions. Before he could think anymore, he spoke. "I think I'll go on my own, thanks." Loso spoked politely, still in the quiet and low voice. He stepped towered the trail to the right, but added a question he has been wanting to ask. "After splitting up, will we meet back again? Or is this the last we will ever see of each other? I mean, are we gonna meet back at a certain time, certain place later on?" And as much as he did not want to say this, his goodness that was buried somewhere is his heart, forced him to add one little thing. "If this is it, well, nice meeting you all. I'll see you around sometime?"

not so long ago
your world was bright
so take a breath and count to ten
and maybe you can dream again

Re: An Expedition (Contest)

An eager listener made Rayim's tour guide urges even stronger.
"Oh, yes, the Tengel holds many wonders!" he assured Ayami, his two tails lashing the air eagerly.  "I've never seen any ruins in the Tengel, though.  I haven't explored the Tengel as well as I have many other parts of Evelon, so there is much of it that remains unknown to me."  He looked a little wistful as he said this, but then immediately brightened again.  "But that's why I'm on this expedition!"  He paused his chatter when Ayami retorted to Chaos' remark, which he hadn't quite heard, being too busy talking himself.  He answered her mischievous smile with his own broad, playful grin.
He was just asking Ayami, "How long have you known your friend over there?" when the purple lucain leading them stopped and turned around.  After hearing what she had to say, he fell silent to consider, looking at the two paths.
"Well, I've always liked traveling with others, so I would be happy to stay in a group.  But if you all want to split up, I'll accept that.  I think I would like to see where the left trail leads."
An evildoer forgiven and saved by Jesus' sacrifice.

I know I'm not on as often as some of you; I spend most of my time at other websites. But if I get in a RP with you, I'll do my best to be sure respond quickly!Image
