But, actually, I wanted to add to that a tiny bit. The 'can only be in one breeding at a time rule'... I agree with what Kodai said. Allow people to be in maybe 2 breedings at once? We would still be limiting breeding with the ingoing/outgoing system, so yeah. Really, if you think you will be able to keep up with 2 at a time, then go right ahead.

And also, I just wanted to say a little bit more about something personal.

Yesterday, Zein (Mojave) asked me why I didn't have a breeder's listing, and/or why I just didn't really breed with anyone. And I do have my reasons, but I found the question surprisingly difficult to answer/explain when she asked me. And it bothered me, because, well, why?

And then when I started thinking about it more thoroughly, going to bed, it kind of hit me. Back in the olden days of Evelon (like, 2007), when rooms were released, you could snag more than one room at a time. So often, I would pick up 2 rooms; one for myself, and then one where I would breed with someone else. This way, I could sow the profits entirely from one room, and get a bit of rewards from the other one.

I ended up breeding with myself and rarely a lot more because of many factors. People know I don't like renting, and that's because I feel like... it's people touching my things. And, well, I guess to me, it's like my food... I will not share my food with you; and I do not expect you to share your food with me. I'm very particular when it comes to these things.

I also realized that it was because keys were stupid rare, and also the time problem. Writing has become a big hassle for me, so when I actually bother to write, well... I'd like to reap the rewards for myself and myself alone. I know it's a really selfish mentality, and I won't even deny it. The thing is that I've had my fair share of bad luck with shared breedings, where I would always manage to end up with babies I didn't care for (back when we split them BEFORE they grew...) or where I would be benevolent towards the other breeder, only to have that kindness thrown right back into my face. So over time, I just got picky; that and the fact I still very timid and uncomfortable and awkward with the community towards my things. It's just... the social anxiety talking, but yeah. I'm working on that.

But, I just want to say, if we were to implement this system, I know I would probably loosen up on my stupid breeding restrictions. I would probably love to breed with others more, even if not ALWAYS ALL THE TIME, but at least now and again more. Because it's not as restrictive as to wait for Keys, and then use the money YOU spent on hard-to-obtain resources to share those rewards with someone else... yeah.

That's it really. I just wanted to mention that point. :'|

I wanted to hop in with a reply, although, it will likely be a lot shorter than most of what I have been posting, since I am sort of doing so in a rush.

Just to show how it could help, using Toxic as an example. Because she does this stuff. It's too late now, Toxic, you're mine.

I just needed to say, I loved reading this, it made me laugh so much that I even had to stop reading and share it with my husband before reading on. xD! I totally don't mind being used as an example. <3


My thoughts on the initiate and participate style breeding system:

I think a system like this would also be a very favorable and viable option. It would make breeding accessible to everyone, with no waiting for and competing in key releases, as well as encourage interaction between users. I imagine it would also make breeding way more accessible to users in largely different time zones, evening the playing field for everyone.

I like the idea of being able to choose which sorts of breedings you want to do, allowing users to focus on certain breedings to work toward specific breeding goals. (Such as me choosing to do two Paragon breedings, rather than a Lucain and a Paragon breeding, or some such thing.)

I also think being able to be in two breedings of any type at once would be ideal in this scenario.

It enables users to potentially have four breedings a month, if they are capable of actually getting in there, finding partners, and roleplaying that efficiently. If not, well, they had the ability to breed that often, if they wanted to, which is great.

I think the key costs, at least for now, should remain as they are. 125 KS for Lucain/Paragon/Soveris and 85 for Kuhnas. If it later feels that the prices need to be raised some, then it could be addressed then? I do think any more than 200 KS would be too much, though.

I think the system would be most efficient if the total KS amount is just subtracted from the user that initiates the breeding, in order to keep things simple and clear. If users want to split the breeding cost, then the other user can just send the KS over to the person initiating, as it done now when one user sends KS to the key holder.

I also am in favor of keeping, "keys," as existing items that essentially negates having to pay for a breeding that can be won from contests or such things. If staff really wanted, it could potentially not count toward the number of breedings initiated by a user (so a user could potentially initiate three breedings in one month, if they were awarded a key), but that's just another possible option.

Initiate/participate is another good idea. I'd be very willing to try that sort of system out. I also like Toxic's idea of keeping keys as items that negate having to pay for breeding rooms, if we implement this type of system.

Okay, wow. Just. Wow. I like this for several reasons:
+ The spontaneous nature of the old breeding system with the ability to communicate before hand instead of just "HEY I GOT A THING WOW LETS DO THE THING"?? Yes, please and thank you.
+ The ability to be able to help people get licenses without sacrificing the breedings you want to do for character reasons? :U
+ The possibility of characters with a butt-ton of children could actually get them within the next 50 million years, ohohohoho please
+ I HAVE ALWAYS HATED WHEN PEOPLE SELL ROOMS. They prices are extravagant and I hate it. They even sold rooms when rooms were first-come-first-served, which absolutely blows my mind, since you could only say you owned them for five days and the sale usually took a day which meant you were spending obnoxious amounts of KS for four days of hurried breeding RP and possible sadness. I can't recall at the moment if I ever did sell a room key, but the pressure is ridiculous and I don't want to do it for fear of ripping people off because I don't want to value a key at some stupid price like two Lucain or a custom and some KS or soemthing. Dumb, dumb, dumb, please get rid of this.

It also keeps the keys for the purpose of raffles and prizes for things, which is nice. They still have a clearly defined benefit in the system and a place where they belong without having users claw each other's eyes out every time they're released. Kind of a rainy day "oh, no, I already participated in two breedings but now [user] is asking me what do I do?" plan.

Time Limits
Extending time limits would be great for me, yes, because I'm awake and unavailable for internet communications for at least 18 hours on the days I work and then I sleep for-effin-ever the next day. On top of that, I've got chores, am my mother's only transport on off days if she needs something, and do happen to finally have some social activities outside of internet that I am out of the house to participate in. By that, I mean just one thing, my D&D group that's about 25 minutes away. So. Yes.

Also, as Toxic pointed out, we're already using PMs to circumvent the rule, so it's not doing anything useful, really. Silv and I are apparently going for a record, but that was partly due to me having to write my graduation thesis and all but abandoning Evelon for something like four months.

I get that having breedings sit forever undone could be frustrating for artists (When will they finish? Will they finish? Can I post things yet? No? Why not?), but, as other people have said, it give more time to work on things and make them the best you feel possible, so I don't really see the issue? If you're excited to work on a pair and get the babies done when they still have several posts left, it's a chance to play with gradients and textures if you wanted. And if you're happy with the babies they way they are, then the breeders are gonna be so happy when they get their babies so fast.

Also, since the room count won't stack, it's not like someone could abuse the crap outta the extended time and hoard up rooms somehow. They wouldn't even be something you could sell, so there wouldn't be an incentive to try and "stock up" anyway.

Room Limits
Either/both limits would be fine with me. I prefer a limited amount of rooms at a time of whatever you want at a time since I like the possibility of being in two Paragon rooms at a time or something. Whatever works though.

Price
Maybe the base price for KS is a little less than what the total couple would earn for the room, and goes up from there? I haven't actually done the math myself, so that might be what was being suggested. I dunno. And yes to money taken up front at beginning of breeding.

I saw this in the whole novel, so I wanted to speak. Shrewd, you silly goose. Not every baby is gonna be a hit with the person who bred them, but not every random is a hit either. Or every event pet. There's always gonna be someone, somewhere who sees it and thinks of just how great a character that can be. Every pet finds a home. Besides, you've made some spectacular babies for me in the past that I loved from the moment I saw them and still do. Even when the pairing's a weird one.

Including Shrewd, whom suggested the "Initiate/Participate," breeding method, 10 users agree with it and no one has yet to post saying they disagree. I wonder if someone should make an official suggestion thread for it so users can vote, or if these sorts of results make it seem as though it's worth trying out without a poll being necessary?

Just popping in to offer my support for the initiate/participate breeding method too... And also to say, as far as KS sinks go, I don't think the price should be any higher. Activity's been slow lately as it is, which is the problem, right? And we just had the Halloween event so a lot of users are a bit short on KS. If things take off and we need more of a KS sink, then maybe raise the prices then?

I'm pretty sure there's a more eloquent way to say it but half my face is numb and the words aren't coming to me.

Well, a lot of people are giving their input in how they think activity can be encouraged on Evelon, I guess it's only appropriate that I put in my $0.02!

Some people have mentioned how they RP, and that they prefer to have several short posts over having to keep up with long, detailed posts!  This is a relief to me, because whenever I have RP'ed, I have really felt that I had to write long posts in a few days' time!  But since y'all outright said you are patient and actually prefer shorter posts, I can RP more often, because I won't feel so pressured.

Some (or one) of you have also mentioned that you miss seeing random open RP's that everyone can join.  To be honest, I'm not as into open RP's as some of you might be.  They are somewhat less appealing because I feel like they are rather like random small talk that could go anywhere or nowhere.  I prefer RP's with direction, a story, RP's with a plot!  I guess it's part of my Asberger's Syndrome; I've never been good at or much enjoyed small talk.  Thus, I prefer community event-type RP's, or private stories that I post as "RP's".
