Many years after the Goddess Tear had been created, the Gods were in dismay over the chaotic state of the lands below. The Goddess Yepha made an angel to sort out the discord across the lands. This angel, Nerastiel, was sent forth with a spool of thread made from the night with which she was to tie every human together. As she began to twine the thread around the wrist of humans they began to understand one another, hearing one another's thoughts and understanding their feelings. Knowing that she is doing something great for the humans and Gods alike, Nerastiel spent a week focusing on nothing but her job before she became exhausted.
In a clearing the the Roraldi Forest, she lied down on a log and began to consider that perhaps the task she had been given was too great for one seraph alone to handle. During this time, a man with golden eyes presented himself to her, telling her his name was Gendraggutte and that he was a Chaos. He then presented to her his true form, a Chaos with brilliantly golden colored scales. As the two of them talked, Gendraggutte told Nerastiel that he was envious of her. While she was able to stop the fighting between humans and bring harmony, he brought nothing but discord.
He offered to help her on her quest, and eventually Nerastiel accepted it despite the stigma surrounding his species. Together the two of them were able to get double the amount of work done, and it took them about a year to tie most of the humans together. The angel began to feel affected by the feelings humans expressed, as she started to know love. After admitting that she might be falling for Gendraggutte, he asked if it were even possible for a Seraph to love. To this she responded that even she was not sure.
After a few more weeks together, other Chaos began to take notice of Gendraggutte helping out and courting a Seraph. He was ridiculed by his own kind, and before long they began to try to harm him. Worried for the woman he'd fallen for, he tried to tell her it was too dangerous for the two of them to travel together any longer. She chose not to leave him though, and the two continued to work together.
As Nerastiel unraveled the last of the spool or thread, she found that it was attached to her sleeve. With a smile, she told herself, "I suppose I'll just buy myself a new blouse made of gold to celebrate our love." Each time she reached the end of the spool though she found it attached to her clothing until one day she found the thread attached to her finger. While she didn't want to alarm him, eventually the she told Gendraggutte.
He tried to get her to stop her quest, telling her he didn't approve of it if it would eventually destroy who she was. She told him that, as it was her calling, she had to do it. He would wake the next morning to find she was gone, having left to continue her task on her own. After some time to gather himself together, the man set off following the string in order to look for her. The only way to find her for sure though would be to find the beginning and end of the thread.
This led to ten years of cutting the ties between humans, his claws effortlessly breaking the bonds created by Yepha's string. During his search other Chaos began to notice that the man could cut his string and relentlessly hunted him down as well, eventually killing him and melting his scales down to makes scissors to cut the string on their own. These Chaos began to cause discord wherever they went, starting many wars.
Nowdays, once every year the people of Aldrect hold a festival devoted to the "Golden String," with the misconception that the thread and gold were one.

Ah... A little history lesson they never teach, hmm? Most of it is all rumor and legend up on Topside anyway. *Topside of course, being the human world. It was their sort of term for it down here. He kept walking with his arms folded behind him.* The Vuerei were the predecessors of modern man, a human race both ancient... and powerful. They were the first to find the Maiden's Tear, if you've ever heard that one, and artifact said to be dropped directly from the Goddess herself. They used the tear to gain knowledge of the heavens and used it to their own purposes. Long story short, there grew factions of men that separated from the Vuerei, afraid of the Tear's power, but the Vuerei chose to exploit it and gain the power of the heavenly Sigils, the words of creation, action, everything that /is/. Eventually, they learned to change the Sigils to their own purposes, fighting off Chaos that were rampant those days. And no, the heavens didn't really appreciate their... misuse of the knowledge. Wars ensued over power and possession of the Tear and such. *He waggled one hand.* Petty history lore, of course, as it goes. Apparently, they were so good at changing the sigils to fight off the Chaos, that even the Heavens wanted to relearn all that the Tear taught them, so that they could fight the Chaos properly.
